“Ready?”

“Oh yes.” Excited, she couldn’t help but jump in her seat.

“There’s that smile I was looking for …” Cole grinned as he turned the engine off.

Megan couldn’t help but smile as he got of the car to open the door for her. After closing the door, he gently raised the hood on her coat, hooked an arm over her shoulders, and attentively led her to the other side of the building.

Her jaw dropped when she saw the plane the building had hid from view. Giving him a searching glance, she managed to close her mouth. “I’m impressed.” She was awestruck. She had never seen a real-life plane like this before except on television. “Cole, exactly who is your friend?”

“Have you heard of the band Mouth2Mouth?”

“Of course.” She nodded. “I love their music.”

“They use this plane to get to their concerts.”

“That’s so nice of them to lend it to you. You must be close friends.”

“We are. When I asked to borrow the plane from Kaden, I told him there was something I needed to do.”

“To meet the insurance agent.” She nodded her head, still stunned she was about to get on a plane that Mouth2Mouth flew on.

Cole shook his head with a wide grin. “No, I told him I wanted to impress a girl.”

“Would you like another drink?” the bartender offered.

“No, thank you. I haven’t finished this one.”

Sitting at the small drink stand at the marina where Cole had left her to wait for him, she checked her cell phone for the time. He should be back any minute. Tempted to pinch herself that she was at a marina in California and not still in a mental care facility, Megan decided she didn’t want to know if this was a figment of her imagination.

Putting on the sun hat Cole had purchased for her from a clothing boutique when had arrived, she hopped off the stool and walked down the dock to where Cole was going to bring his boat back to moor.

As she raised her face to the sun, she couldn’t understand why Cole would rather spend December in Treepoint than staying here, where it was sunny and warm. Not to mention the sun wasn’t hiding behind layers and layers of clouds.

He had told her they needed to make a stop before meeting his friend and took her to the clothing boutique. Once they were there, he had her pick out an outfit for the day. At first, she had protested. Then she realized she wouldn’t have to spend the day in a thick sweater and jeans and gave in.

Hastily placing a hand on her hat, she barely managed to keep it from flying away. When she heard a swooshing sound coming nearer, she looked around to see where it was coming from.

Hearing oo’s and ahh’s from people on their boats, Megan looked up at the sky at what they were staring at.

“What the heck …?” Startled, her eyes widened to their fullest as Cole zoomed across the water with what looked like fire hoses attached to his feet. At the end of the dock, he slowly lowered himself until his feet were above the water, motioning to her.

Laughing, she ran over to him. “What are you doing?”

“It’s called flyboarding.” He laughed and held his hand out to her. “Come ride with me.”

“I’ve never done it before! Is it hard?”

“All you have to do is hang on to me and not let go, no matter how scared you get. Can you do that?” Cole asked, holding both of his hands out to her.

Had she ever given anyone that much trust? No, she hadn’t. She had married Curt knowing she would never trust anything he said or did.

Taking a deep breath, she reached out to take Cole’s hands.

“Step onto the platform between my feet,” he instructed her. “Wrap your arms around my neck.”

Gingerly stepping onto the platform, she shyly wrapped her arms around Cole’s neck.

“Hold on tighter.”

Tightening her arms, she gasped as Cole slowly rose into the air. She expected the movements to be jerky and was amazed at how smoothly he was able to control the powerful jets as he glided back and forth over the water as if they were slowly dancing to music only they could hear.

The experience was exhilarating, exciting, frightening, and so amazingly beautiful she couldn’t believe it was happening to her. This was an experience other women were meant to have, never her. She didn’t deserve it.

“Megan!” Cole’s sharp voice brought her back to awareness. “Whatever you’re thinking, stop it right now! Have some fun!”

“Okay!”

Keeping his hands on her waist, Cole said something into his headset as he did a downward spiral until their feet dipped into the water.

“You better not get me wet!” she yelled out laughingly to him.

As he did a big loop, Megan heard music coming from the Jet Ski, which Cole’s equipment was attached to, allowing them to be propelled into the air.
