A faint meow comes from the sweet kitten in my arms. It’s my fault this little one got into the house. He followed me through the back door and I lost him.

“Ms. Beaman, where are you going?” I look at the large man who always looks ready for battle. Enrico is the largest besides Alessio and the boss. It’s insane how all three are handsome, but still, to me, neither of them can compare to Alessio. Every night I go to bed dreaming of him, aching for him.

“I’m supposed to drop the kitten off at the estate next door, where they have the extra cats.”

“I will walk with you.” I know that his insistence is for my safety. It’s his job to protect the area, although I doubt anyone would attack me.

“You don’t have to. It’s not that far, and we’re perfectly safe here.”

“It’s my job to keep you safe while you’re on the property, miss.” I knew he’d say that, so I accept without the fight that I’d give Alessio.

“Okay, Enrico,” I answer, smiling up at him.

We walk the kitten over to the property line and let the little fella go where the other kittens are roaming. They meow at each other like they recognize he’d been lost, and I can’t fight my joy. I pull out my phone and take a picture of them to send to the girls.

“You have a pretty smile. Do you have a sister or something?” he asks me, flirting lightly, which is funny because he doesn’t ever speak.

Whipping my head toward him, I nod vigorously with a grin. “I do. She’s a couple of years older and single, but she’s not going to be interested.”

He tilts his head and huffs, “No? Is she not single?”

“She’s single, but she doesn’t date and doesn’t go for guys who break the law,” I say playfully, knowing that they aren’t quite businessmen.

“I wouldn’t.” He pretends to be offended, chuckling and pressing his hand to his chest. I let out a giggle.

“What the fuck is so funny?” We both whip our heads around to find Alessio approaching us, storming toward us in a fit of anger. “Huh?” His sexy brows are raised as he questions us, marching closer and closer. God, does he look hot when he’s grumpy.

“What’s up your ass?” I ask him, wondering who he’s talking to like that since he’s not my boss. As I recall, I met the boss, and he seemed quite nice to me and knew I was off taking the kitten back.

“Little girl, I’d watch your mouth. You’re already in enough trouble with me.” I try to fight the internal pleasure I’m getting out of his threat, but it’s difficult. The only thing I’ve done is mention that Dario is good looking, so there’s nothing I could have done to get on his bad side other than make him jealous. I saw it earlier, and now it’s registering that laughing with Enrico is only adding to it.

“I didn’t…”

I give the slightest pout, and he grumbles something before asking, “What’s going on here?”

“I was telling Enrico all about my sister and how she’s hot and single.”

“Yes, your sister.” He narrows his eyes at Enrico with what looks like a warning, and my panties are soaked to the core. “Come on, Ms. Beaman. I’ll take you back to the house and then drive you to my house.” I shrug and give Enrico a sheepish look, mouthing sorry.

“Stop flirting with him. It will not do you any good.” He’s so jealous, and I love it. I’m going to have to use that toy January got me as a birthday present this year.

“What are you talking about?” I play dumb because I have no interest in his coworker or whatever he is to him. I don’t know what mobsters refer to each other as, but I love the growly tone in Alessio’s voice, anyway.

He stops me in the middle of our walk back, turning me to face him as he looks down at me, his handsome face inches from mine. I could almost stand on my tippy toes and kiss his fierce, grumpy lips. “You’re flirting with one of the enforcers. He’s used to killing people with his bare hands. You think he wouldn’t drown those kittens, but you’d be wrong. He’s no good for that kind heart of yours.”

“Enforcers?”

“Yes, sweet June. We are mobsters.”

“But he’s nice.”

“You need to stop flirting with all the men because he’s not nice. He’ll destroy you and everything you love, including those kittens.”

That was harsh, and I doubt Enrico would do that. He liked those kittens too. Alessio’s trying to make him seem like a brute, but there was no missing the sweet grin on Enrico’s face when I set the kitten down with its family. “I didn’t say I was interested in him. Anyway, I still have work to do, so I have to get back inside.” I stick out my tongue and walk away from him.
