“You make me happy too.”

“And Mia?”

“I adore her, Simon.” She paused. “I adore both of you.”

I shifted closer. “That frightens you?”

“Some moments, yes. How much you mean to me so quickly. After what happened with my ex, I didn’t want to put myself out there again, risk being hurt and rejected. I swore I would never try to change myself to conform to someone else’s idea of what I should be. I almost did for him.”

“I don’t want you to change. I like you just the way you are.” I pulled her onto my lap, unable to bear not touching her anymore. I tugged her close so our chests met and cupped her face. “I’m falling, Amy. I’m falling fast. I don’t want to fight it. Don’t ask me to.” I brushed my mouth over hers. “Fall with me, please.”

“I am,” she whispered.

“Don’t be scared, Chippy. I’m right there with you. I’ll catch you.”

Then my mouth was on hers. Claiming. Possessive. Needy.

We kissed endlessly, wrapped in each other’s embrace. “Stay,” I whispered against her mouth. “Please.”

“Yes, but I have to leave early.”

“I know. I’ll take what I can get. For now.”

I stood, flicking off the light and holding out my hand. We walked upstairs, stopping by Mia’s door. She was sprawled out, sound asleep, one leg stuck out of the blankets. “She’s like you,” I muttered. “No matter how often I tuck her in, the one leg is out.”

Amy chuckled. “That will change once winter hits. It gets really cold here, and she’ll want extra layers. You should get her a duvet. You can change the covers easily, so she can pick new ones, and they are light but warm.”

“Good idea. We can go shopping on the weekend. We’ll drive into Halifax, do some shopping, and have lunch. She’d love that as much as another picnic, or we can do that Sunday.”

In my room, I pushed the door behind me, leaving it slightly ajar. I stared at Amy as she tugged her blouse over her head and pulled out her hair clip so her wild curls fell over her shoulders. “You are so beautiful.”

I stepped closer, running my finger over her satin skin. I traced her collarbone, over her shoulder and down her arm, then back up to her neck. I smiled at the shiver that ran through her. I touched her bottom lip with my thumb, barely holding back my groan as she sucked it into her mouth, swirling her tongue around it.

“Such a talented, wicked mouth you have, Amy. Always smiling and sweet. But I know how naughty it can be. The things your tongue can do.”

“Did you like earlier?” she asked.

“Did I like it?” I repeated, edging closer. “It was all I could think about after. Your mouth around my cock with us hidden in the trees. Outside. I kept having to try to think of something else so my cock would stop attempting to tear through my pants.”

She grinned and kissed the end of my thumb. “Good.”

I popped the button on her skirt, tugging the zipper down and letting the material fall to the floor in a pile of lace and linen. “And now,” I murmured, lifting her into my arms and depositing her on the bed. “I believe it is my turn.”

She opened her arms and legs, letting me see her desire. I loved the fact that she was bare under her clothes and I was the only one who knew it. I also loved the fact that she wanted me as much as I wanted her.

“Lose the fabric, Simon,” she murmured. “I want to feel you against me.”

I grinned. “Yes, ma’am.”

It was the only night she stayed until the weekend. We had dinner together one other night—I cooked, and she came over and spent the evening but left before Mia went to bed. I knew it was the start of the school year and she was still getting into her routine. Plus, she was taking some online courses she’d registered for before we’d started dating which would last for a few months. I understood, but I still hated it. The week after was a repeat of the one before. I would see her when I picked up Mia, we would talk, text, and call, but it wasn’t the same. The house seemed empty without her, my bed too big, and the silence too loud once Mia went to bed. Mia missed her as well. How much I didn’t realize until one night later the next week. We sat at the dinner table on Wednesday eating the spaghetti I had made, Mia noticeably quiet. “Daddy,” she asked suddenly. “We have lots of bedrooms, right?”

“Yes,” I said. “We have four. I think that’s plenty.”

“We only use two.”

“Yes.” I frowned. “Why?”

“Couldn’t you give one to Amy, and she could work here at night?”
