“Look, Maya! Look how many of our friends are here,” Aria said, bouncing on her toes.
“We have cupcakes,” Ellie called.
“Let’s go,” Maya urged, linking her arm with Aria who was closest to her.
Ellie flung her arms out wide to hug the newest arrivals. “You made it to the funnest session.”
She caught a glimpse of the men greeting each other with handshakes as she hugged Nicoya and the other newcomers. When she looked up, Ellie could see the Daddies all hung out in the corridor around the daycare. With everyone there, the daycare was full.
A new woman hesitated at the edge of the daycare. Ellie wove through the crowd to greet her. “Hi, I’m Ellie.”
“I’m Violet. This is my Dom, Dr. Robinson. Is it okay for us to be in the Littles’ area?”
“Of course. We love visitors. Let me introduce you.” Ellie turned and put her fingers in her mouth to signal to her Daddy to whistle.
The sudden sound made everyone turn to look at Garrett. “I think Ellie has an announcement.”
“Thank you, Daddy. I wanted to introduce Violet and Dr. Robinson to the group,” Ellie said graciously.
“Hi, everyone. Thank you for welcoming us. We’ve never explored Violet’s Little side. It’s a treat for us to join you,” Dr. Robinson said as he rubbed his hand slowly over Violet’s shoulder and arm.
“I’m glad to meet all these people. Are you all Little?” Violet asked in astonishment.
“That’s up to everyone to tell you, but yes,” Ellie whispered.
“Do you always have so many cupcakes?”
Ellie had to laugh. It probably did look over the top. “I own a cupcake bakery—Little Cakes.”
“We’ll put that on our treat list,” Dr. Robinson said with a smile. “They smell amazing.”
He wasn’t the only newcomer to notice the cupcakes lined up on the table. There were two of each flavor out of the to-go containers and more packaged to take home. They became the focus as everyone finished their greetings.
“You made everyone’s favorite cupcake?” Jordi asked with a look of absolute amazement as she scanned the tables that Ellie and her crew had moved to the side of the area to make room for everyone to gather.
“We did. It took the whole crew of Little Cakes, but it was so fun!” Ellie assured her.
“What’s that flavor? They’re all tilted over on the icing. Did you run into a big speed bump?” Aria asked.
“That’s what everyone says. The idea came from a customer who wanted the ‘bad cupcake,’” Ellie shared, using air quotes. “It was one that had jumped headfirst into the corner of the display.”
“I haven’t ever seen those in the case at Little Cakes,” Gemma said, looking up to the left as she tried to remember.
“It’s the featured flavor starting next week. You all get a sneak peek… Well, taste,” Ellie announced.
“What’s its name?” Maya asked.
“Bad Cupcake. It’s so yummy. Not at all what you expect. There’s strawberry jam in the frosting. Everyone at Little Cakes reconsidered their favorite flavor,” Ellie said with a laugh.
“That could never happen,” Jordi said, aghast.
“You have to try them,” Sue suggested.
“Let’s all try them. The ladies that work at Little Cakes have already sampled it, but they’re glad to have another bite. I made one for each couple. That won’t be too much to eat, will it? One of your favorites and half of a Bad Cupcake?”
“No way!” Nora assured her.
“That’s perfect then. Everyone grab a Bad Cupcake and find your Daddy,” Ellie said and quickly added, “Or your doctor in Violet’s case.”
When everyone stood, ready to sample the newest flavor, Ellie started the countdown. “Munch in five, four, three, two, ONE!”
There was a moment of quiet before low savoring moans filled the air. As each Little chewed, they handed the cupcake to their Daddies and Doctor to try it. The deeper male groans made her giggle. I love this group.
“Good gracious,” Aria said. “These are incredible.”
“As good as Mocha Latte?” Ellie asked as Garrett joined her.
Aria immediately shook her head in defense of her favorite flavor. “No way. But it’s close. I might get one of those when I’m having a rough time. It’s a good reminder that even cupcakes have bad days.”
“And they still taste amazing!” Ellie celebrated.
“For a really bad day, you could add sprinkles. I remember someone telling me sprinkles make everything better,” Garrett commented.
“Or spankles,” Deke suggested with a wink. “They are bad cupcakes.”
Giggles filled the daycare, making Ellie smile and vow to never underestimate the power of sprinkles. Her cupcakes had brought so many together. She couldn’t wait to see what happened next.
