Zeke laid a hand on my arm. “That sounds awful. I’m afraid of being alone.”

“You’re not. You have me.”

“For now.”

I shook my head. “This is more than a hook up. You know it.”

“I…that’s too much, too fast.”

“Is it though?”

The doorbell rang. “That’s the food. I’ll get it.” Zeke practically ran for the door.

ZEKE

Iwas glad for the reprieve. I was not ready to talk to Vito about where things were going for us. I didn’t want him to disappear once everything with Benito and his associates was settled, but I wasn’t sure what I did want, or what was even possible. Would his obsession really last? Was it more than that?

I’d thought I just found him hot and liked the diversion of him and his dominance, along with his ability to protect me, but tonight I’d realized I felt a hell of a lot more. He listened to me. He took me seriously, and damn did he know how to pleasure me in a way that made me know he truly saw me. No one else had ever done that.

I got the food in, and we set it up on the coffee table and turned on the TV. We ended up watching some episodes of Only Murders in the Building. We didn’t talk much, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was easy to just be with him. I hadn’t had a friend I could just exist with in a long time. Not since I was a kid.

When we were done eating, Vito wrapped an arm around my shoulders and pulled me to him. I rested my head on his shoulder and found myself drifting off.

I woke to the credits rolling. Was this the episode we’d started when I fell asleep, or was it another one? I couldn’t tell.

I pulled away and pushed my hair back from my face. “What time is it?”

Vito glanced toward his watch, then froze.

“What is it?”

“Shh.” He laid his finger against my lips and tilted his head toward the balcony.

I raised my brows and mouth “What?”

“I heard something.” He grabbed his gun from where he’d laid it on the end table. He motioned for me to stay back as he moved toward the balcony door.

No way was someone else as insane as he was. There wasn’t any way onto my balcony other than the door we’d been sitting in front of or jumping from one of my neighbors’ balconies.

“Be careful,” I hissed.

Vito glared at me, and his look told me both to shut up and to trust him. I followed him anyway. I wasn’t going to let him do this alone.

He used the curtain as cover and peeked out, gun ready. Slowly, he slid open the door and examined the balcony.

“No one’s out here,” I said.

He growled. “Get inside. Now.”

I huffed but did as he said, enjoying watching him as he moved slowly through the apartment. He bent over to inspect something, and I licked my lips at the sight of his ass in tight boxer briefs.

When he walked back inside, I wanted to tackle him. How was I already hungry for more when he’d just had me gasping, shaking, and begging a little while ago?

He glanced down at my cock, which was straining against my sweats. I pulled it out, wrapped a hand around it, and gave it a few strokes, encouraging the needy little bastard to go from interested to fully hard.

“You really are a horny motherfucker, aren’t you? I’m out there trying to make sure there’s not someone waiting to shoot us, and you’re in here fantasizing.”

“You bent over. It was…hot.”

He grinned. “Fortunately, there’s no one there or any evidence that someone has been watching us.”

“They would have gotten quite a show.”

He smiled. “Yes, they would have, but I don’t share, and you don’t need a scandal.”

“I don’t really want anyone watching. I….” the thought of someone filming me being destroyed by Vito made me feel sick.

“Hey.” He stepped closer and cupped my face. “No one is going to hurt you. What you’re sharing with me is only for us, and I’ll kill anyone who tries to exploit you. You understand?”

I nodded. I did. I understood too well how easily he would eliminate any threats to me. “Did you really think someone else would be crazy enough to jump from my neighbor’s balcony like you did?”

“If you think I’m crazy, Benito is ten times worse. What I was most concerned about was someone having gotten in before we were here and hiding on the balcony.”

The room began to spin around me, and I had to sit down on the arm of the couch. “Fuck. I should have thought of that.”

“No, baby. I should have cleared the apartment and the balcony before I ever touched you. I let myself give in to temptation when I was supposed to be focused on your safety. I will not let that happen again.”
