“Good morning,” I said.

She whirled around. As our gazes met her cheeks flushed and she flashed me a huge smile. She was happy to see me. It was impossible not to see that. No matter whether she was a spy or not that smile was real. I would stake my life on it.

“You’re back. I thought you were away for the whole week,” the beauty said.

My heart thumped rapidly, foolishly as if I was face to face with my latest crush. I disliked myself at that moment.

My gaze dropped to her lips and I found myself longing for their softness against mine. I caught myself. Hold on there, son. This is not how we’re playing this. Either I controlled myself for a few days and got this done, or I ruin it all by allowing myself to act like a lovesick teen.

I forced myself to calm down and summoned grumpy Max. It was not too hard to do.

“I sorted my problem out quicker than I anticipated. Can we go over my updated schedule?" I asked coldly.

She flinched, taken aback at the sharpness in my voice. I saw her swallow hard as hurt squeezed her chest.

“Of course,” she mumbled. Grabbing her iPad, she followed me to my office. Her perfume teased my senses as she trailed after me. My gaze moved to her breasts and I remembered the firm feel of her flesh underneath me. Against my will, an ache formed between my legs and I cursed my body for its disloyalty.

She sat down and pretended to be busy with her iPad.

“I’m ready,” she said, her sexy voice, curling around me and heating my blood.

No woman had ever affected me the way she did. I cleared my throat and forced myself to focus on my schedule. Thankfully, the years of pure self-discipline took over and I became the professional who had grown this company into what it was today. When we were done, I dismissed her and turned my attention to my computer screen. For a few seconds, she stood undecided, but I played my part so well, that she incorrectly assumed I had forgotten she was still in my office.

She was nearly in tears as she hurried out. I had to clench my hands into fists to stop myself from going after her.

I stared out of the window. I was so aware of the bugs. Of someone listening to everything I was saying. My door opened suddenly and I turned to see Lillian enter.

“Look, Max,” she began. “I know what we had was just one weekend and I understand it’s finished and we’ve both moved on, but…”

A little flame burst to life in my cold heart. “But what?”

“But I had a really good time with you and I wanted to return the favor. I got us tickets for a concert.”

I stared at her. How could she possibly be my enemy?

She walked towards me in her white shirt and unbelievably erotic pencil skirt. “Here,” she said, holding out two scraps of printed paper.

Our hands brushed and awareness spread through my body, settling in my cock. I looked down at the papers. Tickets to a Bruno Mars concert.

“I’d like us to go together,” she said, her voice tight. I could feel the tension in her body as she waited for my reaction.

“Okay,” I heard myself say.

A slow smile spread across her face. “Thank you,”

I stared at her for too long. “I’ll pick you up at six.”

“That’s perfect,” she said, her features growing so soft, that it practically made me want to growl with happiness.

She left, leaving a hint of her signature honey and lavender scent behind.

-marry you-

Irang Lillian’s buzzer.

“Come on up,” she said breathlessly.

I pushed the door open and made for the elevator. It was an ancient thing. I would have classed it under the dangerous category. I shifted my weight from one foot to the other, willing it to move faster. As soon as the doors creaked open, I was out.

“Hi,” Lillian said, opening the door.

I took a sharp breath at the sight of her. I know it was a concert and some girls even wore bikini tops to these events, but that silver dress she had squeezed into should have been illegal.

“You look… edible,” I said, my voice husky, revealing my uncontrollable desire.

“Good. That’s exactly how I wanted to look,” she said with a smile. “Come in. I only need to grab my purse and I’m ready.”

I followed her in. The last time I was too jacked up to notice anything. Now, I looked around her living room while she went to the bedroom. She had a small bookshelf and I went to it and perused her tastes in books. A set of hardbacks about the French Revolution. That was a surprise. I opened one and found out some man called Dan had given the books to her.
