I roll my hips, grinding against her. Cammie’s head snaps back and her body quakes as she contracts around me. There’s such primal satisfaction in knowing that I’m the one who takes care of her needs like this. That she feels safe enough with me to let go. That I’m special enough for her to let me see her at her most vulnerable and beautiful.
And when her gaze returns to mine, hazy with desire, I let go, too. Falling into bliss along with her.
I collapse on top of her for a few seconds, then realize I’m probably crushing her and push up on one arm. “I think I’m addicted to your precious.”
“My precious is also addicted to your mighty sword.”
“He is pretty fucking mighty, isn’t he?”
“So mighty. The pride of Gondor some would say.” She smiles. “I’m so glad our hearts caught up to the rest of us.”
I ease out and roll to my side. Removing the spent condom, I tie a knot before I toss it across the room, into the garbage can. “Cuddle time?” I ask hopefully.
“You are such a sap,” Cammie observes.
“You love it.” Cammie and I wiggle around, shoving the comforter down and pulling it over our naked bodies. She tucks herself into my side and I kiss her cheek.
“You love me.”
“I do.”
“I love you.”
“You do.” I can tell she’s fighting a smile.
“We should get matching sweatshirts or something,” I muse.
“Or you can just write it on the message board on my door.”
“When can we move in together?”
Her nose wrinkles. “After first year?”
“We could bring my bed in here and turn it into a double so we’ll both fit and get a mattress topper or something.” I push up on one arm, excited about the prospect of sleeping beside her every night. “And in the summer we can get an apartment together.”
“I don’t know that they’ll allow us to be roommates, but it’s a fun idea. A summer apartment sounds reasonable, though.”
I drop back to the pillow. “Right. You’re probably right. But won’t it be cool to decorate our place Lord of the Rings style? And then we can have a queen- or a king-sized bed and no one has to worry about falling off or hitting our elbows on the wall.”
“I love this plan.”
“Me, too.” I’ll be her forever Aragorn and she’ll be my forever Arwen.
And we’ll write our own story, one kiss, one smile, one chapter at a time.
EPILOGUE
CAMMIE
FIVE MONTHS LATER
“If there’s a forty-year-old man in that coffee shop, I’m going to knock him out,” Chase states emphatically.
“It’s a coffee shop in downtown Toronto, Chase. In the business district. There’s a really strong chance there’s a forty-year-old man in there. Also, you potentially breaking your hand on a dad’s face won’t be good for your summer hockey program or your criminal record, so maybe just relax.”
“I really hope Ophelia is actually a teenage girl,” Chase mutters.
“Me, too.” I squeeze his hand.
I really hope Ophelia is who she says she is. I open the door to the coffee shop and step inside. Chase presses his whole body against mine. It’s cute and also, he’s hot when he’s being protective.
I scan the tables, looking for a girl my age-ish. Ophelia has been accepted to Tilton and will be living on campus in the fall. I’m starting the fall semester with the creative writing course to which I was granted a placement with huge excitement from the evaluating professor, I’ll be living with my boyfriend, and I’ll have even more friends on campus. Ophelia and I wanted to meet so we could get to know each other before the beginning of the school year. Chase is chaperoning because he’s paranoid that she’s an old creepy guy.
My gaze catches on a familiar face. “Tally?”
“Cammie!” She hops up from the table and rushes over to hug me.
There’s another girl with her. She has long dark blonde hair, deep burgundy lipstick, and a LotR shirt with Arwen, Aragorn, and Legolas.
She stands and runs her hands down her thighs, then clasps them in front of her. Unclasps them. Touches her hair. Smiles and her lips pull to the side.
Chase and Tally say hi.
“I’m so happy to see you. Do you live close by or something?” I ask.
Tally went home for the summer. It was the deal she had to make with her parents in order to live in an off-campus apartment next year. It’s in the same complex as me and Chase. I’m super excited about it.
“My family lives a few blocks from here. A friend of mine said she was meeting her online friend, and I thought it was a good idea to come with her in case that person ended up being a forty-year-old man.”
She and Chase say the last part at the same time.
They smile at each other.
I love them both so much. They’re both such caretakers.
