Maybe my boys are right, maybe she bewitched me somehow as they like to tease whenever they get the chance, but I don’t care. Besides a football, which is the only thing I’ve held this close in the last four or five years, she’s it. I should be scared at how quickly this was all happening, at the way she’d moved in and taken up a prominent place, the most prominent, in fact, in my heart and life.

But instead of fear, I feel jubilation. She’d even help assuage some of the fears I had about my dad’s situation, which was not an easy thing to do. Not even his doctors had been able to do that. But her calm decisiveness whenever we broach the subject always tends to smooth out the rough places in my gut. It’s obvious that she’s a doctor’s kid or that she’s interested in the field herself, the way she’s been able to do that.

She went back to being her shy self while I nibbled on her lips some more, my little Jekyll and Hyde. I call her that in my mind because she’s like two different people whenever kissing is involved. Almost like a switch goes off in her head whenever she sees my lips, but once the kiss is over, she’s back to being Miss. Prim and Proper.

Speaking of which, it’s been a few days since the dining hall incident, and still, nothing about her has changed, so I’m convinced more than ever that there was nothing going on with her and Susie. She hadn’t complained about anything going south after her first few meets with the sorority members, and all seems to be going well there, though it gives me stomach pains each time she disappears behind those doors without me. I’ve already got Jess and Alexis on the job, though, so if anything goes awry, I’d be the first to know.

We dove back in for another tongue wrestle before I put a stop to it. I’m not sure if my girls knows or fully understand what that growth behind my zipper means, and I’m not going to tell her; who knows what she’ll do then. I don’t plan on laying a finger on Lisa until I’ve met her dad. Somehow, I got into my head that that’s the way to go with her. I want everything about our lives, when she looks back on it years from now, to be perfect.

“I wanna play.” She pouted up at me after I refused her attempts to tackle me again.

“You wanna play D and G?” First I ever heard of it, but I guess she’s growing tired of me battling the guys at least an hour a day when there’s no game or no practice, and I’ve finished studying, which is the only time I ever play these days. In fact, it’s because of her that I’d taken it back up again now that my mind was somewhat at peace again.

“Do you know how to play?” I sat her up in my lap to get her started.

“No, I’ve never played a video game before.”

“Never?” That can’t be right. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who’s never played at least one of these things as a child.

“No, mom didn’t think there was any room for growth in them, so they weren’t allowed in our home.”

I barely kept my mouth from falling open. Now I know my girl is beyond innocent, but this is archaic. “How about we start you with something tamer then.” She’d freak if she saw what my team and I were up to in that game. “Hold up a minute.” I sat her on the seat and headed into the bedroom in search of my old PC that I hadn’t played on in years but was still usable.

“What’s that?” She looked askance when I brought it out and plugged it in before grabbing an extra chair to place beside mine.

“This is my old gaming system. Here, look.” I found my old Sims game and was surprised the login still worked since I hadn’t played the thing in ages, not since the beginning of high school when football really took over my life.

I explained the game to her, and her eyes lit up like a kid in a candy store. “You all good? You think you can handle it?”

“Sure, I’ll just ask you for help if I need any.” Watching her excitement reminded me of the way I used to be when I was first introduced to the world of gaming.

I went back to my own game, where my so-called friends had been bashing me in the comments about being whipped. They knew she was here with me and had guessed correctly that I stopped playing in the middle of a serious smackdown on one of our rival teams to go be with her. I typed off a few choice words for them, which they laughed off and prepared to get back into the world of mayhem before there was a disturbance to my left.
