“At least he liked the car.”
“Everybody likes the damn car, Lisa; that’s not the point. The point is…. What was I saying again?”
“Beats me; I’m hungry.”
“Fine, let’s go pick up the others. Where do you want to eat?”
“I don’t care; where do you want to eat?” Of course, he chose my favorite place. He may not think that that’s worth much, but for someone like me, it was worth at least a fully customized G-Class wagon and then some.
SUSIE
“Would you just shut up about the damn car already?” They jumped and looked towards me, the three girls who were gathered in the den at the sorority house. We were waiting for the others to start our bi-weekly movie night, something I never had much interest in before, but that was until everyone seemed rather taken with the new members, one in particular.
Now I have to waste precious time hanging around here when there were a million other things I’d rather be doing. I glared across the room at them, trying hard to contain my anger. No doubt it would be all over campus by morning that I was jealous of her, and that’s the last thing I’d ever want.
I realized that it was these same three from whom I’d overheard the news that something big was going on today outside the dorms. I took a wild guess since it was coming from them that it had something to do with her. Come to think of it, they’re always the ones with the latest news where she’s concerned. Always up her ass like a shit stain. It’s bad enough that she didn’t have to go through rush like the rest of us had and all the other special treatment she seemed to be getting; I’d even heard that there was some talk among the others about shifting things around so she could stay in the mansion, which in the past had been reserved for specific members, namely those higher up in the chapter.
I myself had waited months before a room was assigned to me, and now, they just wanted to hand one off to her like she was the damn queen or something. It doesn’t even make sense that someone like her would attract so much attention, especially from the very ones who’ve always treated me like I was nothing special.
Thankfully she’d shut that down, or so I’d heard, choosing instead to stay in the dorms with her friends, which just goes to show how low-class she really is. Once that died down, there was nonstop talk about how nice she was and what a pleasure it was to have her join us. I was sick of hearing her name, and it hadn’t even been a month yet.
I’m still a bit steamed that she’d been accepted so easily, and worst, that everyone seems to like her. I’ve been feeling people out, and no one seems to have a bad word to say about her, which only makes my hatred grow stronger. It’s only been a few days since the kiss thing, and in that time, I’ve been putting my plans together to put the little bitch in her place, but it seems at every turn, someone or something is trying to thwart me.
After she’d smiled at me so stupidly that day, I thought for sure that I could get into her good graces, that it was an opening of sorts that I could squeeze through. I had no intentions of using friendship with her to get close to Cody; that would be too humiliating even if no one else was aware of it. But if I got close to her, it would be the perfect opportunity to strike when she least expected it.
But ever since I came up with the idea, it seems like she’s been avoiding me. I know it can’t be so; why would she? It’s obvious that Cody hasn’t said anything to her about us, so she could have no reason to be wary of me. But for the past few days, whenever I’m around, she’s absent, almost as if by design.
That’s something else that bothers me. The fact that she gets away with not being here when everyone else is supposed to be, always with some excuse or another, only to learn the next day that she’d been with Cody. From what I can see, she doesn’t seem overly interested in the sorority, not like her friend Alexis.
I’d even given some thought to that angle, using her friend’s very obvious fascination with the sorority to draw her to my side. She wouldn’t be the first person I’d fooled into thinking I liked them only to use them for my own purposes. I’d done my research there since it was easier to get information on those two, Alexis and Jessica, than it was on Lisa.
