I completely forgot he was in the room.

“So did I.”

“You’ve completely fucked that over now, haven’t you?” Barry sits back, shaking his head with a smile that’s way too large on his face. “You had to go and record yourself fucking her. Nasty. But I still want to know when I’ll get to see that.”

I swing my head around to him from looking at the door, thinking Lottie’s going to come back in any moment, but I’m wrong.

“Never! That shit isn’t for your eyes.”

“But you’re willing to make it public?”

I sit back down while shaking my head. “It was a necessity.”

“Ah-huh! I bet she’s good in bed.”

I rub my hand through my hair. “Do you ever shut the fuck up?” I say, eyeing him.

“No. But do you ever tell me all the details? No, you don’t. I tell you when I’ve had the best lay, and I fucking describe it. Fuck, if I recorded it, which I might do in the future, I will watch with you. Though, unlike you, I will get her approval first. We can have popcorn and watch me fuck her into the bed. Maybe it will teach you a thing or two about how to treat a lady.”

“Fucking her into the bed?” I say, almost shocked by his words. When in reality, I shouldn’t be.

“Yes, fuck her into the bed. Trust me, they love it when you go really deep.”

“Okay, you need to leave. Don’t you have your own business to run, instead of sitting here annoying me?” I open my computer and start it up.

Before he can answer, my personal assistant walks in. “Sir, Rock Vintage called. They asked that a purchase be charged to your card. Should I authorize it?”

“Who by?”

She cringes. “Lottie Snow.”

I wave my hand at her. “Yes, yes, it’s fine.”

She gives a quick sigh of relief.

“Well, she works fast,” Barry comments.

I press call, and Lottie answers this time.

“You didn’t waste any time,” I say, impressed.

“If you insist on dressing me, you might as well pay for it. You are dealing with a rich girl, after all.” Then she hangs up.

I look to the phone—one thing I hate is being hung up on. And she likes to do things that annoy me.

“I like her even more. When you’re done, can I have the tape so I can blackmail her into marrying me?” Barry asks as he stands. He holds up his hand at the look on my face. “Okay, okay, maybe I’ll wait a month for your heart to heal, because she’s going to destroy it. Of that, I’m sure.”

“No, she won’t, because she won’t get access to it. Of that, I’m sure.”

Pretty little rich bunnies play with you. Fuck you over for their benefit.

And that’s exactly what Lottie Snow is, a pretty little rich bitch ready to break hearts.

Mine’s not included.

CHAPTER 11

LOTTIE

“You aren’t wearing that are you?” Emma says from behind me.

“It’s rock vintage. It is classic.” I stroke my hands down my pants.

“I’m pretty sure your father’s expecting you to wear a dress.”

“For once in my life, I don’t care what he thinks about what I am wearing. The man’s already getting what he wants—me marrying into power and money.” I huff, putting in hoop earrings to finish my look. My hair is up in a high, curled ponytail, my top is sleeveless in black and white, and it hugs every curve around my breasts, while the pants accentuate my ass, and the corset sucks me in perfectly.

“Okay, well, are you at least going to wear that gorgeous ring?”

I look at it. It is gorgeous. It’s exactly what I would have picked if I had a choice. Whiskey couldn’t have known that though. And it makes me angry that, somehow, he managed to pick something I actually like.

Emma picks it up and walks with it over to me. “Put it on. You’ve committed to this for a year. Might as well start that year now. The quicker you do it, the sooner it will all be over with.”

Sliding the ring on my finger, I look at it and hate myself that I love wearing it and like looking down seeing it on my finger. Especially when it wasn’t by choice that it was put there.

“How are you with going into his house the first time?”

“I’m supposed to be there before everyone gets there. Whiskey says it’ll help establish the pretense that we’re a happy couple.” I cringe, happy, yeah that’s the opposite of what this arrangement is making me feel.

Emma looks at the clock, then back to me. “Let’s go. Otherwise, you’re going to be late.”

With a heavy sigh, I go to my own engagement party. One that I didn’t agree to. At a house that I am meant to move into. I’m not sure how much I like the idea of that.
