“It’s good to see you Whiskey, I had heard you got married. This is a pleasant surprise.” He waves to Lottie, whose leg is shaking.

“It is, very pleasant.” He nods and turns to his computer.

“I suppose you would like the results from the labs collected?” we both nod at the same time, and I even think at one stage I squeeze her hand a little too hard as she gives it a tug.

“Yes,” I manage to say.

“Well, congrats, you are both to be parents. I want to get you in for an ultrasound so we can figure out how far along you are.”

“Early.” Lottie says, and I see a tear roll down her cheek.

“Are you happy?” I ask her, the doctor hands us some forms and we thank him as we leave.

“I…” she shakes her head, her red hair falling into her face.

“It’s unexpected, that’s for sure.” I tell her.

“Yes.” She nods her head. “I want to move back,” she says. “I need more time; this is all a lot. And you are a lot, we have great chemistry, and I’m pretty sure I’m falling in love with you, but I need time.”

“Time.” I nod.

“Yes. You need to give me that, you have this thing with not giving me choices. You need to give me choices Whiskey.”

“I’m used to getting what I want and telling people what to do.”

“And I’m used to being free, and you have had me trapped for the last few months. I want to be free; I want to choose you, you get that right?” she goes to open the car door, but I stop her, turning her around and kissing her lips, I stay where we are. In this moment, in this time. Me and her.

No fucking others could come between us.

“And no breaking legs.” She says as I pull away.

“I don’t know what you are talking about.” I wink and hold open the door. “I’ll take you back to your apartment.” I tell her, she gets in, and on the drive, she tells me how she plans to work even after the baby is born. Just not nights. I don’t say much because I think I have too much input in her life as it is. She may not want me to speak, so I don’t.

And that’s a learning curve—for both of us.

“Oh, Clinton.” I smile at him; he is seated in my office. His leg shaking as one of my men stand at the door. “Did you really think I called you here to give you her?” His taping stops.

“You don’t want her,” he spits. “I could make use of her.”

“She isn’t a possession, Clinton.” It takes everything in me to not get up and break his legs. “I made a promise to my wife that I would not break any more legs. But you caused her distress, you went behind my back and thought what, you could end our marriage?” I laugh standing.

“She doesn’t love you.”

“Keep telling yourself that.” I tap his shoulder as I reach him, and he flinches.

“If you broke my legs, she would leave you,” he says, uncertainty thick in his voice.

“You think?” I ask, squeezing his shoulder.

“My wife would just up and leave?” I question.

“Damn, here I was thinking we had a solid marriage, and I could go around breaking legs of men who think they can stare at my wife in ways that they don’t deserve.”

I release his shoulder, and reach for his hand, he doesn’t have time to stop me. I slam his hand on my desk then pick up my heavy ass candle on my desk and slam it onto his fingers. He screams, before I can even look up my employee stuffs a rag in his mouth to muffles his screams.

Clinton tries to pull his hand back, but it’s useless really.

I have a hold of it.

I reach for one finger and lift it back; if it’s not broken it’s about to be.

“You’ll stay far away from my wife, won’t you Clinton?” when he cries, I bend it back. “Clinton.” He nods his head fast, and I bend it back so it breaks for good measure before I let it go, he pulls it to his chest and cradles it. “You can go now Clinton.” He stands his back hunched as he leaves. “Clinton.” He stops as my employee blocks the door. “Leave your phone, I saw what you have of her on there.” He took photos of when she was asleep when they were an item.

“No.”

“Sorry, did I just hear you correctly.” I lift the candle and go to walk back over to him. He reaches for his phone with his good hand and drops it to the floor before he turns and reaches for the door, I nod, and my employee moves so he can leave. Then we watch as he runs off crying like the little bitch he is.
