“Watching what?” Ridley countered.

“Well, that night in particular, I was waiting for your woman to come back and start her nightly ritual of masturbating,” he smiled a dirty smile, thoughts filtering through his brain that only he could see. “Your brother was the one to bring your girl to my attention…and your wife.”

That statement was directed at Kelly, and Kelly launched himself at Brice.

Brice moved his gun to point at Kelly’s chest instead, halting him before he could get more than a foot from the chair he’d been told to sit down into.

Kelly fell back into it and stared mutinously at Brice as if he was the lowest piece of shit on the Earth.

My finger twitched, itching to pull the trigger.

But I didn’t.

Couldn’t.

The only thing that I had on me was the gun I’d gotten from James hours before when he heard about my near accident at the sheriff’s department.

He’d drove it nearly an hour and a half away just so I could have it.

I’d taken it, of course.

Now I was extremely happy that I had.

Ridley had a gun safe and I didn’t know the combination.

He also had his service revolver that he kept on him, but I didn’t think I could get to it without the movement being witnessed from the kitchen since it was currently sitting on the dining room table.

Leaving me with one option.

The sniper rifle.

And the bullet for it would go through Brice, the wall, and possibly keep traveling all the way down the street.

What I needed to do was get to the front

“How do you even know my woman?” Ridley asked, a fight in his words.

“You. Everything you do interests me. Which is why I found this little pecker head and his lovely blonde piece of ass,” Brice continued pointing towards Kelly, unaware of just what kind of pot he was stirring.

I took aim through the scope at his head, wondering if the brick wall behind him would be enough to stop the bullet.

No, probably not.

I’d have to come at it from a different angle.

Dropping the scope from my eye, I took a look around the room, my eyes finally settling on the fireplace at the back of the kitchen.

It was a shared fireplace in between the kitchen and the living room, and I smiled, my eyes going up to the loft that overlooked both the kitchen and the living room.

If I shot Brice from up there, the bullet would be lodged into the thick rocks of the fireplace, with no possibility of it going all the way through.

It was too thick.

Knowing what I had to do, I made my way back into the hallway, down the hall to the stairs, and into Ridley’s room.

I’d not been in here yet, but I could see nothing of the man that I knew I loved.

All that was in there was blank.

I could tell where he’d taken all the things off the wall.

It was like he’d erased everything that was Aerie from his life, and that made my heart hurt for him.

I hadn’t asked him to do that.

But there was no time to worry about it now.

I had too much to do…and men to save.

My feet practically hovered over the floor as I walked purposefully to the landing that would let me peer over the side.

I could hear the voices, and I idly wondered how Ridley was able to sleep with all the noise that would be produced from downstairs if someone happened to be in the kitchen.

That thought fled as soon as I saw the new state of things.

The man was pointing his gun at Ridley’s chest, and he had another gun pointed at Kelly.

Core stood frozen in the corner of the room, his eyes watchful as he took everything in at once.

His eyes flickered once at the movement on the landing.

He chanced a quick look up then moved his eyes back down before anyone became the wiser.

I settled down in near silence, my eyes studying the man as I moved my eye up to the scope’s front.

“I fucked her. I fucked her even though she asked me to stop. I would’ve fucked your woman, too, but that fucking gator tried to eat my foot. If that stupid brother of mine hadn’t been there, I would’ve died.” He smiled then. “Then that sweet piece of ass was the one to take care of me. Do you know what it feels like to have her hands on you?”

Vomit rose in my throat, but I swallowed convulsively and tried to concentrate.

Ridley was getting more and more upset, and he was to the point that I’d actually guess he would take matters into his own hands if I didn’t do something soon.

And I most certainly didn’t want him to do that.

I valued his body just the way it was, no holes required.
