CHAPTER FIFTY-THREE

Delia

“Who knew that both of our brothers were nice guys?” I smile as I gaze at a bouquet of pink roses Matthew dropped off on his way to work this morning. He knows that today is a special day for us.

Donovan laughs. “Your brother is a nicer guy than mine. You’ll see that for yourself when Victor comes to New York next week.”

It’s been weeks since Donovan first visited his brother in Boston. They’ve spoke on the phone repeatedly since then as they’ve worked through their differences.

“He’s coming to New York?” I spin in a tight circle. “Should I wear this when I meet him?”

“You’re going to marry me one day, Delia,” I remind her. “My brother doesn’t need to see you in that bikini.”

I glance down at it. “I put it on to see if I look any different than I did on the cruise.”

It’s been eleven weeks since we got back, and today is the day we have our first sonogram. It’s also the day that we tell the rest of my family that we’re having a baby, or two.

“You’re more beautiful now than you were then,” he says from where he’s sitting on the edge of my bed.

That reminds me…

I turn to face him. “I have a question for you.”

“Yes, I’ll marry you,” he says before I can get another word in. “I have a ring, Delia. I don’t have it on me because I’m naked right now.”

It’s impossible for me not to notice that since he slid into me bare less than an hour ago.

We stopped using condoms shortly after we realized I was pregnant. The sex has been incredible and frequent. I’m insatiable and he hasn’t complained once about that.

“You bought a ring?”

“Of course, I did.” He chuckles. “I told you that we’ll be married before long. If you want that to happen before our baby arrives, we’ll do it. If you want the baby to be there with us when we exchange vows, I’ll wait it out.”

“I’ll wait for the ring,” I tell him. “I want you to surprise propose to me.”

“That’s a little hard to do.” He accentuates that by stroking his semi-hard cock.

“It’s not a little hard,” I note. “It’s getting very hard again.”

“Because you’re wearing a fucking bikini, Delia.”

“You know what’s underneath all of this.” I gesture up and down my body. “You’ve seen it a million times.”

“It’s a million less times than I want to see it,” he counters. “Strip and climb on top of me.”

I’d weigh the pros and cons of that but I can’t come up with one con.

“We have time before our appointment,” he says, falling onto his back. “Fuck me.”

“That sounds like an order,” I say as I tug on the strings holding the bikini bottoms in place.

“Damn right it is. I want one of your nipples in my mouth in the next twenty-seconds while your sweet pussy takes me deep.”

I don’t need to hear another word before my bikini lands on the floor and I’m on top of the man I’ll never get enough of.

“You wanted to ask me a question before you fucked me earlier,” Donovan whispers into my ear. “What was it?”

I glance toward the reception desk. We’re currently waiting for our sonogram appointment. “How am I supposed to remember anything after what we did?”

“We’ll do it again tonight.”

“Promise?” I ask.

“Promise,” he answers. “What was it? It seemed important. I know I interrupted with my talk about a ring.”

I don’t have to search my memory to recall what I wanted to ask him, but now doesn’t feel like the right time.

“Please, Delia,” he pleads. “Whatever it is, the answer is yes.”

I stare into his eyes. “You’ll move in with me?”

He takes my mouth in a soft kiss. “Hell, yes, I will.”

I considered the idea of selling my penthouse so I could move in with Donovan, but it’s part of Grace’s legacy and I want it to be part of my family’s, too. To that end, I take this discussion a step further since we’re still waiting for the most important news about our future.

“I’m going to accept a teaching job at Fortman Academy.”

Donovan’s face lights up. “The private school? That Fortman?”

“On the Upper West Side,” I say even though I know he’s well aware of where it’s located. “I’ll start teaching third grade next year after I’ve had some time with our baby.”

“I love that plan.”

“There’s more.” I steal a glance at the receptionist. “Since I adopted Ralph, it’s made me think more about what I can do with some of the money Grace left me.”

“You want to contribute to the animal shelter?” He smiles.

“Yes.” I nod. “I also want to start the wheels in motion to set up a fund that will help kids who need tutoring. It’ll take time to work that all out, but Roman is willing to help me with the legal side of things.”
