I laugh before reaching for the door. “You’ll never know.”

The lights are flicked off and as I pull the door open, letting the clinical light from the hallway flood the small supply room, I find Carver standing right outside the door, leaning against the opposite wall. A muffled “fuck,” comes from behind me and all I can do is grin.

King instantly walks away and as Carver’s sharp glare hits me, I make a show of licking my lips, letting him know exactly what just went down in there, but before he can say a word, I turn and walk away, no doubt leaving a raging storm behind me as I laugh to myself, never so proud of getting under someone's skin.

CHAPTER 8

As I pull my thigh-high boots into place, I stare at my reflection, feeling more than ready for a wild night out. The week dragged by just as I knew it would, but knowing that I had a date with my new best friend at one of the best clubs in town really kept me going. Though, the two epic orgasms that I’d gotten from King earlier in the week went a long way in helping too.

I haven’t gotten him alone since the supply closet and something tells me that’s been intentional. He’s been keeping his distance and I can’t help but feel that it has everything to do with Carver, that fucking clam-jammer, or whatever the female equivalent of a cock-blocker is.

My lips are painted with my favorite plum lipstick, my eyes are lined, and not a moment later, my hair is thrown up into a high pony. After slipping my brass knuckles back onto my fingers and fastening the thin black choker around my neck, my signature look is complete.

I check my phone to find a text from Ember.

Ember — Leaving now. Meet you there in ten.

Perfect.

Winter — K.

After attempting to slip my phone into my back pocket and failing because the leather is too tight, I shove it into my bra before double-checking that I have enough cash on me to last the night, a pack of cigarettes, my lighter, and my fake ID. The perfect mix to ensure the best kind of night. Though, it’ll be better if I can work out where the hell King lives and slip through his window to return the favor.

It’s well past ten at night, and with Kurt already passed out on the couch and Irene nowhere to be seen, slipping out of the house is easier than it should ever have to be.

I straddle my bike, and within moments, I’m flying down the road, roaring over the hill at the end of the street. I make it into the city in no time, and after circling the club, I find a safe-ish place to park my bike. I hook my helmet over the handlebar and cut the engine before making my way around the front of the club.

I instantly find Ember standing on the curb, looking out for me in a skin-tight black dress that isn’t her usual style at all. I can’t help but wonder if she’s wearing it just to fit in with me before deciding that I don’t really care. If this is what she wants to wear, then so be it. I can lend her my lipstick and find a spare choker if she wants, but I’m drawing the line at my boots. No one gets their hands on these bad boys.

I sneak up behind her before blowing across the back of her neck. She jumps and a loud squeal pierces through the night. I burst into a fit of laughter, which only gets worse as she turns around and gives me the nastiest glare she can possibly come up with, a glare that couldn’t even frighten a fly. After a second, her glare turns into an exhausted sigh. “Seriously?”

“What?” I laugh, shrugging my shoulders. “You know me well enough to know that I’m not one to skip out on an opportunity, and you presented me with one. I had no choice. I had to scare you.”

“Right,” she groans as I hook my arm through hers and start pulling her toward the massive line at the entrance of the club.

“Have you been here before?” I ask, scanning my gaze up and down the building and instantly deciding that I like it.

Ember shakes her head. “Nope, but my cousin came here the night they had a foam party and she said it was ridiculously wild. I can’t wait.”

A grin stretches across my face as she says the magic words.

My phone buzzes in my bra and I dive in to get it only to find Knox’s name flashing on the screen. I hit answer and shove the phone between my ear and shoulder while trying to block out the noise coming from the club to hear him better. “Hey, what’s up?”
