“It’s time. Besides, killin’ those two in front of these fuckers should get the point across we mean business. Save some time.” Sting stood outside the trailer while Clutch opened it. A couple of the men inside grunted but otherwise said nothing. I almost smiled at the defiant looks thrown our way.

“These pissants have no idea what’s about to happen, do they?” Roman chuckled. “Will make the next few weeks interesting.”

“Weeks?” one of them squeaked.

“Shut up, Brody. Not a fuckin’ word.” The other guy growled his command. Probably the leader. Without even trying, we now knew the weakest and the leader of the group.

“Oh no,” Clutch said, raising his eyebrows. “By all means. Keep talking. Especially if you want to beg. We’d like to hear that.”

“So would our women.” Brick’s voice was as deadly as ever. “Since they’re the ones you hurt.”

A couple of them exchanged looks. “We don’t hurt women or children,” one of them said. “The drone was placed carefully in an area where only club members would be. We were assured of the position.”

Brick snorted. “Not sure who told you that, but they’re a Goddamned liar.”

“Or incompetent,” Wylde added as he approached, obviously hearing part of the conversation. He had a wide grin on his face. “Personally, I’m going with both.” His grin said he knew that for a fact.

“We took this job with the understanding we were going to retrieve property of our boss. He said nothing about harming anyone other than the bastards who took that property in the first place. We were told to deliver the warning, then hole up until he gave us instructions.”

“So, you’re not part of his syndicate?” Sting asked.

“We’re mercenaries.”

Brick sighed. “Always with the fuckin’ mercs. Are all y’all stupid or somethin’? Is it a requirement to be a merc? When someone like Milo Hutch hires you for a job, it’s a suicide mission. He has his own fuckin’ army of men who could have done this.”

“Fuckin’ bastard,” the guy grumbled. “I get we’re toast and I ain’t in no position to make requests, but if you happen across that bastard, shoot him for me, will ya?”

“I could almost feel sorry for these guys.” Roman shook his head.

“Their boss said they were free game. Apparently, the six of ‘em are expendable.” The news was delivered gleefully. “Also, I know where that fucker is, Sting. Put some measures in place to keep him there until you decide how you want to proceed. Take as long as you want. He won’t be going anywhere.”

“Oh?”

“Yep. Feds have been looking into him for the usual mob shit. I called in a favor. He’ll be arrested tonight and held without bail for the foreseeable future.”

“That won’t hold him long,” I said, scrubbing a hand over my face. “A week? Two?”

“Oh no. It’s amazing what can happen when your file gets buried in a database somewhere. I basically tossed him in a hole and threw away the hole.” Wylde grinned like he thought he was clever.

“You’ve been watching too many Goddamned movies,” I grumbled. Wylde was brilliant, but he was also an asshole.

Wylde just shrugged. “Shame to waste a good movie line, especially since it’s true. Milo will remain in solitary confinement until you’re ready to deal with him, Sting. His lawyers will make a fuss, but the paperwork has been lost and he’s not showing in the main database. The only people who have access to him don’t know there’s an issue and I’m intercepting all communication regarding Milo.”

Brick shook his head. “He’s too high profile a prisoner to keep him hidden for long.”

“Trust me on this, boss. He’s not going anywhere.”

“Good.” Sting clapped Wylde on the shoulder. “Good work. Cyrus, take Blaze and secure these fucks. Clutch, you’re in charge. Anyone needs me, I’ll be at the hospital with my woman.”

Cyrus got all the men out of the truck, tying them together like prisoners on a chain gang. Not only were they naked, but barefoot as well. Walking on the gravel in their death march added insult to injury. To their credit, only one of them wasn’t stoic about it. But really. Gravel on bare feet was its own torture.

Thank fuck Sting was letting us go to the hospital. I wasn’t sure how much longer I could stay away from Nyla. She was all in when I left her, but I was afraid that if I gave her too much time to think about it, she’d balk. Which wasn’t happening.

“Any update?” Brick looked pointedly at Wylde.

“Only that everyone’s alive. Stitches says he’s most concerned about Rose. She seems OK, but they’re still trying to determine how the baby’s going to do. Not sure when she’ll be able to come home.”

“Atlas?”

“He’s a wreck,” Wylde said. “Hasn’t left Rose’s side. Which leads to the next problem. Alexi Petrov has arrived at the hospital, so everyone’s scrambling to make sure the women have everything they need. I seriously doubt he lets Rose stay where she is much longer. He’ll likely bring in his own people to manage her care.”
