“Don’t you have a party to clean up or something?” I reply, and I take my last big gulp.
“No, we’ve got cleaners for that. You’re avoiding the question,” he says. “So that means you found her.”
I almost choke on my juice, and I lower the glass and cough out loud.
He hovers around me with that broad grin of his. “You did, didn’t you?”
I frown. “How? When?”
He places his hand on the counter right beside me. “At the party. Something about you seemed off. I couldn’t put my finger on it earlier, but now …”
I tilt my brow. “Now what?”
A smirk forms on his face. “Now you’re not denying it. And why else would you be out so late at night?”
I roll my eyes. “A stroll.”
He laughs. Suddenly, he leans in and brings his nose to my mouth, sniffing, and I feel put off.
I lean back and push him away before snapping at him, “Dude …”
“You smell like pussy,” he says, voice dripping with judgment, his eyes twinkling. “I knew it. You found her!”
My face tightens, and my eyes can’t hide the annoyance.
But fuck me, the grin spreading on his face is the trigger.
“How the fuck would you even know how her pussy smelled?”
“So it is her? You’re not denying it, so it’s true.”
I sigh out loud and slam my glass on the counter. I should’ve drunk the whiskey instead.
“Who is she?” he asks. “Where does she live? Did you actually fuck her? Wait, did she wear another ribbon? Is that how you found out?” He fishes it from his pocket and holds it up like a treasure.
My eyes widen. “What the—Where’d you get that?” I snatch it from his hand.
“Underneath your pillow.” He bites his bottom lip, withholding a wicked smile that’s too obvious to hide.
That little shit.
He went snooping through my room while I was away.
He’s too close for comfort, but I don’t know how to fucking react. “So what’s her name?”
My mind races as emotions swirl inside me because this was supposed to be my secret. My fucking treasure.
And now the secret is out.
“Wait, I saw you dancing with a girl tonight … was it her?” His eyes narrow. “But she was with those other two girls.” He snaps his fingers as he thinks. “What was it … Irene? Iris?”
“Irina and Brooke,” I say, annoyed he’s still fishing.
His jaw drops. “Holy shit …”
My hand slowly turns into a fist on the counter.
I don’t like where this is going.
“It’s Lana? As in Lana R—”
Before he can spit out her name, I slam my hand over his mouth. “Don’t even think about it.”
But the excitement on his face tells me it’s too late to put the genie back into the bottle. Fuck.
“I swear to God, I’ll fucking sew these lips together if you say her name out loud.”
“Fine, fine,” he mumbles through my fingers.
When I lower my hand, he doesn’t relent. “Oh my God, that girl?” He cups his chin. “Though it makes sense, considering who her brother is.”
“Exactly, so keep your mouth shut,” I say.
His face contorts. “Does she know it’s you?”
I shake my head. “Not yet.”
He blows out a breath. “Phew. I was almost scared she was gonna come after us—Wait…” He pauses. “But your mouth smelled like pussy. You gave her head?”
I grab his shirt and pull him up close. “Don’t tell anyone. Especially not Nathan. Got it?”
He holds up his hands. “All right, all right.” He snorts. “Though, if you ask me, great taste in girls, dude.” He makes a pursed fingers gesture with both hands, brings them to his mouth, and kisses the air between them like an Italian. “Perfection. But just one problem. Wasn’t she also there to kill that dude? And we caught her in the act?” He’s counting the questions on his long, bony fingers. “And doesn’t that mean, technically, she wants to kill us?”
“Maybe,” I reply.
He smiles. “Can you put me down now?”
I slowly lower him to the floor, and he pats himself, straightening his clothes.
“Thanks.”
“So … the girl we’ve been looking for, you not only found her but gave her a lick like a goddamn lollypop…” He sniggers to himself. “And here I was thinking that party was just meant to gather money.” His eyes home in on mine, and they’re suddenly much less happy and much more riddled with savagery. “You were luring her in.”
A devilish smirk forms on my lips.
“You already knew it was her, didn’t you? How long?”
I fish the ribbon from my pocket to look at it for a moment, the memory of when I first saw that little violent kitty still etched into my brain. “I saw her walk around on campus with a red ribbon in her hair a few days ago.”
“Wow …” He taps his foot on the floor. “You know this will not go down well with Nathan, right? You, falling for the one girl who could destroy our reputation if she finds out who we are.”
