Obviously, I wanted him to have fun. He deserved it, but all I could do was think about him and Josh, or him and other guys, and this wave of jealously pulled me under each and every time.

I wanted to be out with Kellan…and I wanted Kellan to be with me.

Or hell, I wasn’t that much of a possessive asshole. He could go out with his friend as much as he wanted. I just didn’t want him to hook up with anyone.

Stupid as it sounded, I wanted Kellan Caine all to myself. Even stupider? I was pretty sure I missed him. It was one night apart, and it wasn’t even like we’d spent every day together, but I had at least seen him nearly every day for the past few weeks.

“You want another beer?” Griff asked. Law was there too, but Knox hadn’t made it in. I wasn’t sure what he was doing.

“Sure, buddy. Thanks.”

The bar wasn’t too busy for a Friday night, which meant Griff had a bit more time to chat. “Still nothing on the robbery?” he asked.

“Nope.” My teeth ground together. It was the last thing I wanted to think about. I hated the idea of something violent happening in Havenwood. I sure as shit hated that it had happened on my watch.

“That’s some crazy-ass shit,” Law said. “Things like that don’t happen here. Not since…” His words trailed off, but we all knew exactly what he was talking about. Not since Kellan and Griff’s parents.

I put the bottle of beer to my lips and took a long swallow.

“Kellan worked late at his studio the other night, and that shit stresses me out. I have this fear of someone breaking in while he’s there.”

My eyes snapped to Griffin’s. “Did something happen? Did he tell you he noticed anything strange?”

“No, no.” Griff shook his head. “You know how I get. Just worry too much. After losing Mom and Dad.”

He did worry a lot, and I got that. Plus, he loved his brother…the guy I was sneaking around with. Fuck, I really needed to figure this shit out. “Nothing is going to happen to Kellan. I promise you.”

“You and I both know you can’t make promises like that,” Griff replied.

But I was serious. I’d move heaven and earth if I thought Kellan was in trouble.

“I’m pretty sure the little shit is seeing someone,” Griff added just as I took a drink of my beer. I nearly choked on it, coughing wildly as Lawson reached over and swatted my back like I was a kid.

“What makes you think that?” I asked, hoping my guilt didn’t show. I glanced at Law, and he cocked a brow at me, curious, but I ignored him. All I needed was for people to start finding out about me and Kellan.

“He hasn’t come home quite a few nights. When he does, he still comes home late. He says he’s at the studio, and yeah, sometimes I’m sure he is, but I don’t know. Something’s up. He’s smiley and acting weird and shit.”

Well, that made a grin tug at my lips too. I liked the idea of making Kellan smile.

“Whoever the motherfucker is, I hope I won’t have to kick his ass.”

And now I was frowning.

“Why would you have to do that?” Law said. “He’s a grown-ass man, Griff. And hell, one of you needs to move out or something. Give the kid some space.” Law pushed his blond curls from his face. I couldn’t say I didn’t agree with him. Griff was too protective of Kellan, but Kellan didn’t help matters either.

“You called him a grown-ass man and a kid in the same sentence,” Griff replied just as I said, “He’s not a kid.”

No one answered me as Griffin continued, “I think if he’s spending as much time with him as he has been the past few weeks, then whoever this fucker is should make an appearance. He’s obviously in Havenwood. Why are they hiding out? Why haven’t I met him? It’s like he’s hiding Kellan away.”

Guilt suffused my body and landed in my gut. Was that how Kellan felt? Hell, maybe he’d said something to Griff. Maybe he thought I was embarrassed of him. That couldn’t be further from the truth. I was proud to be with Kellan. Well, if I were really with him, which I wasn’t.

“Give him some credit, man,” Law said. “It’s only been a few weeks. I’m sure there’s a good reason for it. You’re a little out of control where your brother is concerned. I probably wouldn’t want to tell you if I were dating him either.” I was pretty sure Law had figured us out and said that for my benefit.

Griff shot him a murderous stare. “Thank God you’re straight, and don’t even joke around like that. I couldn’t handle the idea of one of my friends screwing around with my little brother. I’m too protective, and it would cause all sorts of shit.”
