More yelling sounded.

Is that Cain?

His voice rose higher.

“Oh hell no.” I grabbed the knife from the bathroom floor and stormed off.

Another man roared back. I wasn’t sure who it was. It could have been one of his brothers, but I had to make sure. While I wouldn’t get between two brothers, I damn sure would curse another dude out over Cain.

Not thinking, I left the bedroom.

The noise of pounding footsteps filled the hallway.

I gripped the handle hard and continued forward.

Griff appeared holding two plates.

Pandora followed only wearing a huge shirt that looked familiar to me for some reason. “You told him, honey. Thank you.”

Not seeing me, Griff turned into his bedroom’s doorway. “Cain can’t put his hands on you like that. It’s not right.”

Cain hit her? That doesn’t sound right.

I kept on walking.

Pandora spotted me and didn’t go into the bedroom. Instead she headed my way and began slipping off her shirt.

This bitch is always doing too much.

I picked up my pace, knowing she was coming to me.

Pandora had the shirt off and balled it up in her hand. “Morning.”

I stopped two feet in front of Pandora and waited for whatever bullshit was coming out of her mouth.

“Give this back to Cain for me.” Pandora flung the shirt at my head.

I leaned to the right and dodged it. The shirt fell to the floor.

This morning, she had these wild eyes the sort that reminded me of this one homeless guy that Quin had named Victory Park’s Dr. Seuss. Dude would sit near the park’s bike trail at night, eating his own shit and speaking in rhyme the whole time.

She grinned at me. “You got something you want to say to me?”

“You came to me because I damn sure wouldn’t come to you.”

“I was just giving you back Cain’s shirt.”

“If he wanted it back, he would have had it.” I shook my head. “You can keep that shit.”

Griff ducked his head out of the room. “Pandora, come on and eat.”

“Give me a minute,” she said as if she was running the place. “We’re talking.”

I smirked. “We’re really not.”

Griff kept his head out of the doorway as he munched a strip of bacon.

Pandora lowered her voice. “Cain and I had a friendly conversation.”

“That’s why I heard him angrily yelling?”

“That was Griff and him arguing over me.”

“Girl, bye.”

“Cain wants to fuck me.”

I stared at her and made no move, but I could feel the anger rising in me. I didn’t know what was up with her. While she seemed like a hater yesterday, she’d shifted into a deranged person today. Perhaps, being trapped here shoved her into madness. Something was much more off than usual.

Don’t take the bait. She’s crazy. You’re better than that.

“He doesn’t want your black ass.” Pandora looked me up and down and twirled the end of her hair. “Black as a crayon ass black.”

“Damn, girl.” My blood heated. “You really want that ass whipping and I don’t even know why.”

Go to your bedroom. It would be like whipping a toddler.

She giggled and twirled her hair some more. “Probably put voodoo in his tea.”

“That doesn’t even make any sense.”

“You’re ugly.” She spat the words out. “Black as tar. Black as—”

“Bitch please.”

“Don’t you ever call me a bitch.” Those eyes grew wilder. “Know your place when you’re around me.”

I gave her a wide smile and put as much emphasis on the word as I could. “Biiittttccch.”

Her crazy ass rushed for me, grabbing my shoulder and trying to grab my ponytail. I blocked her with my left arm and slashed at her with the knife. The blade came close, but missed.

“Fucking bitch.” She got my ponytail this time and yanked me to the wall.

Oh hell no.

Quick, I threw my body weight into her, making her ass stumble back. She crashed into the wall with a boom. But the bitch had a good grip on my hair.

I fell forward with her. The knife fell from my hand.

“Eh!” Griff yelled. “What are you two doing?!”

I punched her in the side.

“Ah!” Still holding my pony tail, she slapped at my back which did nothing. I had to battle dudes on the street just to not get fucked with day to day. It would take a lot more than a chick’s slap to knock me out.

I slammed my fist into her stomach over and over, left and right, hitting her like I was in a fucking ring trying to win a championship belt. She scratched at the back of my neck.

“Stop that!” Griff screamed. “Why are you all fighting?!”

“How black am I now, bitch?” I punched her tits. “Tell me!”

“Get her off me!” Still gripping my hair, Pandora cried and fell to the ground.

We wrestled and rolled, kicked and punched each other. Our limbs tangled. The only reason why I hadn’t killed her was due to her tight hold on my hair. I couldn’t get free, but I could keep beating the shit out of her.
