“There’s so much food.”

He grabbed his phone again. “Wasn’t sure what you liked.”

“Well…” I looked at the oatmeal, the French toast, the pancakes, the bacon and sausage, and the scrambled eggs. “I eat anything, so I’ve got a lot of work to do.” I loaded a couple things onto my plate and started to eat.

He set his phone aside and grabbed a few pieces of bacon and some eggs. He ate across from me, his eyes on me the entire time. Despite how pretty his eyes were, they were intense. Something so beautiful could also be so menacing.

“What?” I asked, growing uncomfortable with his stare.

“You look beautiful in the morning.”

“I look beautiful when I’m dead tired and still wearing last night’s makeup?”

He didn’t flinch. “Yes.” He brought his mug to his lips and took a drink. “Or maybe it’s just because I know that pussy is packed with a night’s worth of come.” He set down the mug, a cocky look in his eyes.

“Are you always this possessive with a one-night stand?”

“No.” His answer was immediate, his certainty ironclad. “But this isn’t a one-night stand.”

“Excuse me?”

“I spoke clearly.” He took a bite of his bacon and ate it as he stared me down.

Last night, I’d given in to my weakness and thrown myself at him. Watching him turn that grown man into a pussy had been a serious turn-on. I’d dropped my ass into his lap to chase away his other admirers, and I’d felt his hard dick against my cheeks immediately after I sat down. But it was an impulse, a lapse in judgment. “Look, I just wanted to get…whatever this is…out of my system. Now I have.”

He took another bite of his bacon as he stared at me. “Whatever you say.”

“I meant what I said before, that I don’t want to make things complicated.”

“It didn’t feel complicated last night.” He took another bite. “Do you usually let one-timers come inside you?”

I stilled at the question. “It’s none of your business if I do—”

“You don’t, Pretty. But you let me come inside you because you wanted me so bad. So, what happens in a couple days when your pussy aches for more? You think another small dick is going to do the job? Guess again. You’re the one who dropped your ass onto my dick and staked your claim. Don’t play games with me.”

“I’m not playing games—”

“Then let’s cut the bullshit,” he said. “I have obligations tonight. But tomorrow night, I’m coming to your place. You’re going to cook me dinner then come on my face. Any questions?”

I stilled at his words, picturing myself straddling his face as we lay on my bed, that powerful mouth doing unbelievable things to my aching body. I had been thoroughly satisfied last night and was ready to walk out of there, but he’d just reminded me of everything I would leave behind. “No…no questions.”

He reached for his mug and took a drink. “Good.”

Can we talk about this in person?

No. I slid the phone into my pocket then got into the car.

You think you can just dump me without explanation?

We weren’t together, so I’m not dumping you. I started the car, and the headlights brightened the underground garage.

You wouldn’t need to break things off if there wasn’t something to end…

I just wanted to give you a heads-up. Sorry for being considerate.

So, did you meet some other hot thang?

I didn’t bother responding and drove off, leaving the garage and driving down the one-way streets to her apartment. I didn’t ask for her address because I knew where she lived. Then the music died when the call came in.

I should have taken care of this yesterday, not right before dinner. I took the call. “Yes, Kayla?”

“That’s how you talk to me now?”

“What do you want from me?” I kept my voice normal and didn’t snap at her, because in truth, she hadn’t done anything wrong.

“Answer my question.”

“What does it matter?”

“I deserve to know,” she snapped. “We’ve been doing this for years—”

“Yes, there’s someone else.”

“And you’re serious that fast?” she asked incredulously.

“No.”

“Then I don’t understand.”

“I don’t understand it either, Kayla,” I said quietly. “But I’m not available right now. That’s the bottom line. I don’t want to ignore your text messages and dodge your phone calls. I don’t want to ghost you. I’d prefer to be straight with you.”

She was quiet.

I continued to drive, hoping that would be the end of it.

“Well…good luck.”

“Yeah, thanks.”

She hung up.

I drove the rest of the way then parked on the side of the street. Her apartment wasn’t luxurious like it should be. Despite the fact that her father had appointed her as his replacement, he didn’t pay her a salary to reflect that. It wasn’t low-end either…just not flashy.

I walked to the door and let myself in, anxious to get inside and see those beautiful eyes burn the second they met mine. She had a good poker face, but I could read all the subtleties of her expression so well after studying it since the moment I met her. I knew she wanted me—and I loved seeing just how much.
