“I’ll talk to him—”

“No. That will just make everything complicated.”

“Then what do we do?”

“We do a better job at hiding it. He’s obviously watching your apartment, and he’s watching mine.”

“My father wouldn’t spy on me.”

He smirked. “I’m sorry to break it to you, sweetheart.”

“We don’t even know if any of this is true,” I said. “He may not have a clue about us—”

“He does.”

I refused to believe my father would play games. “We tell each other everything. There’s no reason he can’t come to me directly and tell me how he feels. If he doesn’t like a guy that I’m seeing—”

“Would you stop seeing me?”

I stilled at the question, put on the spot.

He watched me, his eyes hard. “I don’t think you would. So then the two of you would only grow distant. You would hide me from him so you wouldn’t have to deal with his disapproval.”

“If my father really didn’t like someone, I would respect that.”

“Really?” Now his voice was weak.

“But in this case, I would tell him all this stuff about you isn’t true—”

“And he would convince you otherwise, even though you actually know me and he doesn’t know me at all,” he snapped. “Trust me on this. Let him think the seed he planted has blossomed into a thornbush. Let him think I’m gone. We’ll be able to carry on our relationship without his interference, and my business relationship with your father will improve.”

I already felt guilty for sneaking around with my father’s associate, but we were knee-deep in this now. It would be hard to waddle our way out.

“Trust me on this,” he repeated, seeing the hesitation in my eyes.

“I’m not really the kind of person to sneak around—”

“Neither am I. But I’m not letting you go.” The stare he gave was potent, all-consuming, powerful. “No fucking way. You’ve stood by my side when everyone else turned their fucking backs on me.” He shook his head. “I’m not letting you go.”

My dress dropped to the floor, and then his lips were on mine, kissing me harder than he ever had, his big hand gripping my ass and giving it a hard smack before he grabbed my thong and yanked it down.

His shirt was tugged over his head, and then he cupped my face, backing me up to the bed as I tugged down the front of his sweats to reveal that big cock with the oozing tip. He lifted me onto the edge then dragged me close, shoving himself hard inside me with a victorious moan. “Fuck, Pretty.”

His hands gripped the backs of my thighs and pinned them toward my rib cage as he thrust into me, his big body towering over mine, all of his muscles flexing and shifting as he moved to fuck me hard.

My hands clutched his hips, and I stared at the mountain of muscle, the enormous man who could turn me on with just a single look. I was a tall woman who was always teased for my height growing up, but he made me feel petite.

I tugged my body back into his as he thrust into me hard, both of us working to fuck, to take each other as hard and fast as possible. It was an itch that couldn’t be scratched, a desperation that couldn’t be quenched. I broke out in a sweat almost instantly, and his chest tinted red with the heat.

He was the one who came first, grunting as he forced his big dick as far as it would go.

It was the first time he’d left me hanging, and I shouldn’t be disappointed, but I somehow was.

But then he moved again, his dick as hard as it’d been a moment ago, and kept going like there hadn’t been an interruption.

He brought the pizza box to the bed. “Here you go, Pretty.”

I smiled then opened the lid, taking a slice that was still warm and biting off the corner. “Nothing better than pizza after sex.”

“I prefer cigars.”

“I’ve never seen you smoke one afterward.”

“I’m not going to smoke around you.”

“Why?”

“Disrespectful.”

“But don’t you do it with other women?”

His arm moved behind my shoulders to support me, since the headboard was made of solid wood. “You know you’re different.”

I took another bite and chewed, feeling the warmth of his words.

He stared at the side of my face and watched me eat.

“Where did you get this?”

“Same place we went to last time. You know, where we fought in the middle of the restaurant.”

I smirked before I took another bite. “Bad atmosphere. But good food.”

He sat there and watched me, falling into silence.

I started to get self-conscious with how much I was eating, so I cut myself off and closed the lid. “Thanks for the pizza.”

“Thank you for the trust.” I’d said my words halfheartedly, but he’d said his with depth.

“I don’t know if it was trust… It just didn’t match your character.”
