“No,” I order sharply. “This works. She’s very smart and would probably detect any listening devices I’d place in her room, so it’s better this way. She told me she’s a travel blogger. Did you come across that?”
“Oh hell, really? I thought it was a coincidence because what kind of hit person keeps a digital diary of all the places they’ve gone?”
“Like I said, she’s clever.”
“God, be careful, Finnick. Maybe you should back out.”
I’ve never felt so alive in my life. “The hell I will.”
Chapter
Six
GEORGIA
I take my time showering and getting ready for bed. When they said it was a suite, I thought it meant there would be two actual bedrooms. I guess it only meant that the room had a private bedroom with a door.
It’s not until I exit the bathroom and Finn glances up at me do I realize that my pajamas are so revealing. The shorts are a bit small, but I love the silky feel of them. I have a purple top that goes with them. It might not be so bad if I had a bra on.
Finn stares at me for a long moment. I try not to fidget. He has a way of drawing out the silence to make me break it, but this time I don't. I stand there a bit struck that this man and I are sharing a room. He’s a complete stranger that I met mere hours ago. I know nothing about him besides the little he’s revealed to me. Yet for some reason, I feel comfortable around him.
When I was in the shower, I tried to downplay how handsome he is, but that lie lasted in my head until I saw him again. He drops his feet from the coffee table, leaning back on the sofa. My eyes drift down, taking in the way his thick thighs look in his pants. I can feel my nipples harden at the sight. The man is too sexy for his own good.
“I got ice.” He nods toward the bucket.
“For what?” I manage to get the words out.
“Thought you might need it.” He shrugs.
“I am kinda thirsty. Hungry too.”
“You want to order room service?” His tone almost sounds suspicious.
“I would pay for my part. I won’t stiff you with the bill or anything.” I go in search of the room service menu. I can sense Finn’s eyes on me the whole time. The man can shift from being sweet to something else altogether. It gives me this weird thrill. “Found it,” I call out when I locate it on a table near the door.
I flip through the pages, having a hard time understanding half of what the things on it are. What I can make out are the prices. I should just go to bed and eat in the morning. I’m not broke, and slowly I’ve been making money, but it always scares me that my income isn’t steady.
“What are you getting?” Finn asks when I close the menu.
“I think I’ll wait for breakfast.” I walk over and hand him the menu. “I can’t read half the things on here.”
“You said you were hungry.” He flips the menu back open and translates it, telling me what each thing is.
“You speak French?” He gives another one of his nonchalant shrugs. “That's really cool.” I drop down on the sofa next to him. “How many languages do you know?”
“I can speak a handful fluently.” His eyes flick to my bare legs that are almost touching him.
“But you can like read and understand others?” He nods. “That’s incredible. I wish I could do that.”
“What would you like?”
“Like I said, I’ll wait.” My stupid stomach decides to let out a small growl the second the words slip past my lips.
“You’ll eat tonight.” He gets up and walks over to the phone. I don’t understand a word of what he says because it’s all in French, but he’s on the phone for a few minutes. I’m not sure if it’s the foreign language, but it sounds like he’s ordering the entire menu.
“Did you order everything on there?” I laugh when he finally hangs up the call.
“You wouldn’t tell me what you wanted, so I had to improvise.” I snort a laugh, but he doesn’t even crack a smile.
“You’re not joking?” It dawns on me.
“I wouldn’t say I ordered everything. But you’ll have a variety to choose from. I could tell from your face a few sounded off-putting when I read them.”
“Okay.” My mind is already trying to add up what this bill is going to be.
“I’m going to take a quick shower.”
“Okay,” I say again.
He gives me another one of his long stares before he goes to take his shower. I grab my cell phone to busy myself trying not to think about the fact that there is a naked man whose last name I don’t know in my hotel room. Or how good he probably looks with the water running down every inch of him. I really need to get my mind out of the gutter. The man has been nothing but respectful and kind to me.
