I need to see that sparkle.

“Charlie?” I wait for her to turn to look at me, but she doesn’t. This calls for drastic measures. Reaching over, I place my hand on her thigh. Her skirt is tight over her thighs where she sits, and my hand rests perfectly. “Look at me.” I wait. Her eyes move to my hand on her thigh before slowly rising to mine. “There she is.” I smile at her.

“You shouldn’t be touching me. That’s sexual harassment.” Her words tell me to stop, but her sparkling eyes tell me she likes it.

“Do you want me to move my hand, Charlie?”

“I— Yes, you should.”

“I didn’t ask you if you thought that I should.” I turn in my seat to get a better look at her. My body is angled toward hers as much as the seat will allow. “I asked you if you wanted me to move my hand.”

“I am your employee.”

“Not yet,” I counter. “Tell me, Charlie.”

She nods, not able to give me the words, so I lift my hand from her thigh, already missing the contact even through her skirt. The need to feel her skin against mine is so strong that I take the same hand and mold it to her cheek. “You should let me kiss you.” My voice is husky even to my own ears.

“W-What?” she stammers.

I keep my eyes locked on hers. “I want to kiss you.”

“You want to kiss me?” She repeats my words as if she doesn’t understand the meaning of them.

“More than anything,” I say, knowing I’m giving her too much. I don’t know why, but after last weekend, the me that used to be an asshole to her just doesn’t seem to fit us. Not anymore. I’ve tasted her, and spent time with her, where she started to let her guard down and it’s led me to wonder if I wasn’t wrong all those years ago. I thought she shot me down because she felt like she was better than me, but that doesn’t seem to be who she is.

My head is a mess over this woman, and I can’t stop thinking about kissing her. A fucking four, really? I can do better, and I’m damn well going to prove that to her.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” she replies with a hushed whisper.

That’s not a no. “Maybe we should try it and see?”

“Spencer.” She sighs.

“Just one, Charlie.”

“We’re in the parking lot of my work. The office your hospital is trying to buy. This isn’t a good plan.”

I nod and sit back in my seat, adjusting my seat belt around my chest and locking it in place before starting my SUV and pulling out of the lot. I drive one block, turn right into the pharmacy parking lot, and put the SUV in Park. Unclasping my seat belt, I turn to face her. My hand goes back to her cheek, and she tilts her head just slightly. If I wasn’t watching her as closely as I am, I would have missed it.

“What are you doing?” she asks softly.

“Fixing the problem. Now we’re just in a random parking lot.”

“In the middle of the day.”

“Is there a rule about kissing in the middle of the day?” My lips quirk up in a smile. I can’t seem to help myself where Charlotte is concerned.

“No. No kissing.”

“Just one. Come on. You have to give me a chance to up my score.” I watch as she bites down on her lip to keep from smiling.

“Four at best, Pennington,” she razzes.

I lean in close, our lips barely a breath apart. “I can do better.” I hover, our breath mingling, but I don’t move any closer. “Tell me I can kiss you, Charlie.”

She rolls those big blue eyes. “Fine. If it will get you to stop asking. It’s pointless,” she says, her voice a breathy whisper.

“What’s pointless?”

“You trying to up your number? You’re a four, Spencer. It’s okay. I knew there was something you weren’t perfect at. I just never thought it would be this.”

The words are barely out of her mouth before I press my lips to hers. Hers are just as soft as I remember them being. It’s not even been a full week since I last kissed her, yet her taste still seems new.

As I slide my tongue across her lips, she opens for me, just like I need her to, and I dip my tongue inside. Her hands grip my shirt as she sucks on my tongue, taking over what’s supposed to be my kiss. Not that I’m complaining. I’m expecting a low rating because that’s the game she wants to play, and I’m fine with that. It just gives me more motivation to convince her to kiss me again, to test out my rating again.

I can play this kissing game as long as she’s willing. It’s not a hardship to kiss the beauty sitting in my passenger seat, gripping my shirt like she’s afraid I might disappear at any moment.
