“Tell me this is okay, Charlie girl. Tell me you want this as much as I do.”

“Want what?” I ask breathlessly. I know what he’s asking, but I need to hear him say it. To spell it out for me in black and white.

“That you want me as much as I want you. That tonight, you’re going to let me make that scene in your book come alive. Do you want that, baby? Do you want me to give that to you?”

Yes. Yes. Yes. “This isn’t us,” I try to reason with my mind and with him. This isn’t us, at least the college us. It appears the us that is post my sister’s failed wedding is exactly this.

“Use that pretty mouth of yours, Charlie.”

“Yes.” The word slips out, but I don’t regret it. I trust him. Even with our past, I know he’d never hurt me, and he’s offering to take care of this ache. My pussy is drenched for him, and after last weekend, I’m ready for more.

More of him. More of whatever he’s willing to give me.

“This one.” I point to the door we’re standing next to in the hallway. “This is my room.”

“Good girl,” he rasps. He kisses me hard but pulls away and takes a step back. “Go to your room. I’m going to lock up.”

I part my lips to argue with him but think better of it. Instead, I nod and, on shaking legs, push open my bedroom door and move through the darkness of the room to my bed. I turn on the small lamp on my nightstand that gives the room a soft, romantic glow. My hands are clasped tightly in my lap as I anticipate what’s to come.

However this night turns out, I’m already certain I’ll have no regrets.

CHAPTER

FOURTEEN

Spencer

I rush back to the living room and make sure the door is locked before making my way to the kitchen. I check the sliding glass door and turn the light on over the stove so Audrey’s not coming home to a dark house, then kill the lights, and make my way blindly back to her room. Once at her doorway, I stop and take in the scene before me.

Charlotte is sitting on her bed. The soft glow of the bedside lamp illuminates her features. Her dark auburn hair falls loosely over her shoulders, and I smile. She took her hair down for me. I’m wasting time out here when I could be devouring the beauty before me. When I step into the room, her eyes lift to mine.

“Audrey… if she comes home, she’s going to see your car in the driveway.”

Reaching behind my neck, I remove my T-shirt, tossing it to the floor. “Does that bother you? That she’s going to know that I’m here. That I’m here with you?”

She parts her lips to speak, but no words come out. Clear blue eyes regard me thoughtfully. “Do you care?” she asks.

I smile. I know what she’s doing. She’s not willing to put herself out there for us. Not yet, and that’s okay. I’m willing to do it for both of us. I want her. I’ve always wanted her, and now it’s time that I fight. For her. For us.

“I don’t care that she knows that I’m here.” I keep going before she can ask more questions. I know what’s on her mind. “I don’t care if she knows that I’m in here with you. I don’t care if she knows that I want you.”

“You want me?”

“I’m here for you. Not because I wanted the night to end like this, but because I wanted to see you. Spend time with you. If that’s all we do, I’m okay with that. If you tell me that you want me to leave, I’ll be disappointed because I just want to be next to you, but I’ll do it.”

“We can’t—I mean, we can’t tell people. My sister, if she comes home, will find out, but you’re about to be my boss, Spencer.”

“Let me worry about that. There are no rules against employees dating.”

“I’m sure that’s not true of the CEO.”

I nod. “Trust me, Charlie girl. I’ve combed over the employee handbook like my life depended on it since I found out you were working for the practice we were about to acquire. There are no rules. We do this however you want. For now.” I add that last piece. I’m fine with letting her take her time to get used to us, but I won’t hide this forever. Fuck, I’m so close to having her.

“Just between us while we’re at work.”

I nod. “For now.” I step toward her. She remains still as I spread my thighs so that her knees are between my legs. My palms brace her cheeks as I tilt her head so that I can see into those pretty blue eyes. “Are you going to let me show you now?”
