He pulled out of her, and she whimpered as she thought he was going to stop what they were doing, only he didn’t. Alexander slammed, hard and fast. He didn’t stop or take his time, but he took, driving every inch of his dick inside her.

The pain was nothing short of a memory, as he replaced it with the pleasure he gave. He let go of one of her hands and reached down between them, stroking over her nub. She screamed his name, not wanting him to stop.

“Come for me, Layla. Come all over my cock.”

She didn’t think it was possible to have another orgasm, but Alexander had complete control over her body, and he knew what he wanted from her.

He touched her, drawing her closer to the peak, sending her over the edge, into a second orgasm, taking her by surprise. She cried out as he didn’t stop this time. He drove in and out of her, fucking her, filling her, and she knew he was close to the edge.

Her name spilled from his lips, and then Alexander did surprise her, because as he came, the fangs he’d tried so hard to hide came out, piercing the flesh of her neck. As he did so, something happened. They were mates. They were connected and as he took her blood, she felt him. She knew and felt exactly what he was thinking and feeling.

Layla had never seen herself like this. In Alexander’s eyes, she was … perfect. She was everything he had been searching for.

Closing her eyes, she saw the first moment he laid eyes on her, the peace that came over him. Each night they met, she felt the anticipation, the thrill of meeting her. Each emotion nothing more than a second, but it was enough. A mere glimpse inside the soul of her mate, and as quickly as she got to see, it ended.

The pleasure seemed to dim, and then Alexander had stopped taking from her. He pulled out of her, and she sensed his … anger. Not at her, but at himself. Alexander had lost control and she knew this had been the first time since he was a newborn vampire.

He prided himself on his ability to deny the bloodlust. This wasn’t lusting for her blood. This had been their mating. It had opened a link to him.

“No,” he said.

Before she could stop him, he had taken off. Layla looked around the room and saw that he’d not taken any of his clothes. She didn’t have time to panic or get upset. All she wanted to do was find her mate.

“Damn it, Alexander,” she said.

Climbing off the bed, she had no choice but to ignore the bloodied sheets. She quickly changed into a pair of sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt. With his clothes in her hand, she ran out of the house, coming face-to-face with her parents.

She expected them to be disappointed, but now that she knew the truth, they showed themselves. She couldn’t quite read the expressions on their faces. Were they angry? Sad? Disappointed? Layla had no idea.

“Do you know where Alexander is?” she asked.

They bowed their heads.

“We do not,” they said in unison.

“Don’t do that,” Layla said. “I don’t want things to change between us. I know you’re not my actual parents, but you are, and … I don’t want things to change between us. You don’t have to pretend to look like them, but please don’t treat me differently. There is already so much to take in and I’m kind of trying to … you know, not freak out.” She wanted to get to her mate, but she needed this to be normal, or at least as normal as possible.

“Then, you shouldn’t have boys in your room.”

“Dad, come on,” she said.

“No, that is final, but if you’re wondering where Alexander is, he is down by the lake.”

This was good. This was progress and exactly what she needed. She stepped toward them, kissed each of their cheeks, and then took off, heading toward the lake.

As she got to the edge of the forest, she was stopped by Brandon and Elle. Both looked at each other with great concern on their faces. The moment Elle saw her, she gasped.

“Layla, are you okay?”

“Yes, I’m fine. I’m perfectly fine.” She looked from her best friend to Brandon, then back again. She didn’t have time to worry about what they thought of her.

“Have you seen Alexander?” She hated that she had to ask.

Both shook their heads.

“Fine. I’ve got to go.”

She brushed past them, thankful that neither chose to stop her. Running through the forest, she rushed to the direction of the lake. When she got closer to it, she sensed him, and it made her stop.

You’re a monster.

You don’t deserve her.

You’re going to end up killing her.

Layla didn’t like the thoughts that were running through his head.
