“Don’t,” the warlock said, coming forward, and placing a hand on the witch’s wrist. She snarled and pulled her hand from his chest.
“Don’t touch me.”
The hatred between the two was clear to see. The warlock looked ready to snap her neck, but rather than do so, he walked away.
She chuckled. “You’re lucky he’s here and knows what kind of power you have.” He ran a finger from his forehead all the way down to the tip of his nose. “I’m going to have fun with you.”
“You’re not. You’re going to kill me.”
“Enthrallment doesn’t work on me, vampire. You’ll have to try your tricks with someone else.”
He wasn’t even attempting to use his powers on her. This made him laugh. “Did I say you were going to kill me today?” Alexander tutted. “No, I didn’t say today, but very soon. So very, very, very soon, you’re going to want to kill me.” He made sure to draw out his words.
The chains that bound him had some kind of protective spell cast over them, which made it impossible for him to get free. He’d already tried the usual, attempting to break out of them, and that wasn’t working.
He was already looking for a way to escape, but he didn’t like the way the wraiths were setting everything up, as if they were waiting for a sacrifice. Deep in his gut, he knew Layla was coming for him, and as much as he wanted to be with her, she wasn’t ready for the kind of power he saw displayed.
Alexander didn’t fear death. He’d already survived it once. Been on the brink of being killed multiple times. He wasn’t going to die here, not today, not at their hands. They were all going to suffer, he would make sure of it, as well as never getting their hands on his woman.
Layla would be safe.
“You know I have a personal hatred of vampires,” the witch said. “And when we gain true power, I’m going to make sure your kind are the first to kneel before me. You will be my slaves.”
Alexander smiled. “You will never have that kind of power.”
She went to attack him again, but a panther this time stopped her, throwing her away from him. The two didn’t look friendly either.
Disaster of the Otherworld was not bound by loyalty or friendship, but by a desire to win. The moment they got what they wanted, they were going to tear each other apart.
Alexander attempted to pull on the chains. They didn’t budge. He was no weakling, so a spell had to have been cast to stop him from being able to escape. Not good. So not fucking good.
He’d been taken during the day, which had been at his weakest point. The fucking amateurs.
Alexander didn’t know how they were able to break into the Northern Forest Pack, or how they’d been able to locate him, but he was pissed. When he got out, and he was going to be free, he would slaughter them all. With every second that passed, he knew the risk of Layla coming grew. He had to hope her parents and Brandon kept her at the pack.
There was no way his life was ending tonight. He would not be the weak link in his woman’s life.
Layla.
His woman.
His soul.
His everything.
Damn it.
No. He wasn’t going to let them take her from him.
There was a sudden giggle, and the sound seemed vaguely familiar. Alexander frowned as he looked up, and there, coming into the circle, was none other than Lori. This she-wolf who had tried to become Brandon’s mate.
That was how they had gotten to him. Lori had been kicked out of the pack after trying to hurt Elle. She wanted to take Elle’s place and Brandon wouldn’t allow her. She’d been rejected by the Alpha, and then removed from the pack because of what she did. Brandon had fucked up with her, making Lori believe she had a chance at being by his side, when she never fucking did.
Now, Alexander saw what else the Alpha had done to fuck up. He’d allowed Lori to live. By kicking her out of the pack, she’d simply moved and found Disaster of the Otherworld.
Lori came to stand in front of him.
“Hello, Vampire,” she said.
“You.”
“Yes, me.” She sighed but had this huge smile on her face. “Do you think Brandon will be surprised?”
“What is your plan here? Kill me, kill Layla?”
“Oh, I don’t give a shit about Layla. The pathetic human will get what’s coming to her. No, what I care about is Elle, and I’m going to gut that little slut. She took what was mine, and these guys will allow me my revenge.”
Alexander shook his head. “You should have gone back and begged for forgiveness.”
Lori wrapped her fingers around his throat. At no point was he afraid. “I don’t beg.”
