“Fuck is right,” Rowan says.

The ground quakes again, and I watch as holes in front of Hassha and Korah appear. Dragons shoot out of them, made of branches, vines, and leaves lined with iron. They swoop above us before landing on the outskirts of our units. Their eyes glow a menacing purple, and when they open their mouths, clouds of purple fire burst into the air.

Hassha points her face to the sky, and just as she did in Vanora, she summons the sky warriors, made of both moon and sun.

The sun warriors appear between us, bathed in a nearly blinding sunlight while sitting atop flaming horses, while the moon warriors stand on foot, gripping spears and focusing on the enemies.

“Glad we aren’t alone.” Rowan cocks his gun.

I look past him to Alora and Valden whose eyes are lit in gold along with their Gilded warriors. A few of their Gilded float in the air with weapons. The regular warriors stand behind the queen, waiting for instruction.

Then there’s Callista and the Luxorians. A silver fire is in Callista’s eyes and a hatchet in her hands as she glares at Selah.

Danica stands next to Killian, clenching her jaw as she grimaces at Selah. With the hilt of her katana gripped in hand, her black armor, and her hair braided down her back, she’s ready to avenge her fallen mate.

If looks could kill, Selah would already be dead.

She’s pissed a lot of people off.

Devlin scowls with Bolv and Hale at his side. Beatrix and the Mythics stand between the armies, ready to aid us with healing.

I peer back at Makoto, Veno, Lewis, and several of my other commanders. They look at me, nodding once, ready to fight for their monarch. Their families are in their own bunkers built throughout Blackwater. Safe, just like my family.

Everyone on this battlefield is prepared. Including myself.

“This is your last chance to surrender, Seed of Yuri.” Selah’s voice drifts toward me as she levitates.

I levitate with her. “Fuck you.”

Hassha and Korah rise as well, on the defense. “This will be the last chance for you, Selah. Otherwise, you’ll die today.”

The evil Regal spits a laugh and then she swings her arm, making the flames around her hand grow larger. “I look forward to watching the energy drain from all your bodies,” she hisses back.

Her creatures hiss too, lurching forward. I ready my sword, peering down at Rowan and Killian. Their eyes flick up to mine.

“This is it, brothers,” I yell. “We fight hard today. And no matter what, know that I love you more than anything!”

“Tell that to us after we win!” Killian barks back.

Selah rises higher in the air, pointing her sword forward as she drifts backwards.

Then she makes a command to her army in three simple words.

“Kill them all.”

“For Vakeeli we fight!” I shout, pointing my sword ahead. All the armies unleash a battle cry, and the war ensues.

I fly forward with Hassha and Korah, swinging my sword as the creatures flock our way. I slice into them, through them, while searching for my target.

The sooner I get to Selah, the quicker this will end.

I look down, and our army is charging ahead, weapons raised and ready to attack. They clash into Selah’s army, cutting, fighting, guns going off, swords scraping and clinking.

Dragon on its way, Yuri warns.

I fly out of the way just as one of Selah’s dragons hurtles toward me with its mouth wide open.

Before it can fully pass, I grip it by the tail and snatch back so hard its spine rips out. It falls to the ground and crushes several of Selah’s creatures.

The giants dodge the dragon, still stomping toward our army, but Korah swoops down with her sword, going through them like they’re water as she slices their heads off.

They crumple, landing in bloody heaps.

I hear a familiar shout and spot Rowan and Killian fighting back-to-back, swinging their swords and shooting where they can squeeze in a bullet. They work in harmony, and I’m even more surprised to see Devlin jumping in the air and cutting too.

Valden and Alora work their way through the giants, dragging their blades across their ankles while the Gilded handle combat in the air.

“Caspian!” I find Hassha’s voice. “With me!”

I start to fly her way, but something slams into me. A winged creature digs its talons into my armor and gnashes its slimy teeth, trying to bite me as it flaps.

“Gun,” I command.

When I feel it in my palm, I point the barrel at its belly, and it explodes.

“You’d better not let any of those fucking guts get on me,” I grumble to Yuri.

He chuckles in the hollows of my mind and spares me.

I teleport to Hassha, and she points ahead of her.

“Selah will hold back as long as she can,” she says, panting. “She’s waiting for us to use most of our energy before she attacks. I will go after her, wear her out as much as I can. The weaker she becomes, the weaker her creatures do too.”
