“Because I’m in your top two?”

I poke my tongue in my mouth. “You’re still striving for that, huh? Maybe you need some more practice.”

His smile is slow and sensual. “We can practice all you like.”

I’m suddenly conscious of a nauseating swirl in my stomach.

His face drops. “Princess, what’s wrong?”

“I feel sick,” I say, suddenly in a panic. “Like really sick.”

“What do you—”

I can’t shove him out of the way fast enough and vomit on his shoes then I all but crawl back to the toilet. After the case today and coming straight here, I realize I never had the chance to eat. And three or so bottles of champagne are not my friend.

CHAPTER 47

Crue

She barely missed vomiting on my cock. I’ve been a part of some pretty messed up shit, and I’ve dealt with my fair share of blood and gore all over my body, but this—having my dick out and someone throwing up on my shoes—is new. And something I never want to revisit again.

Her head is pillowed in my lap as I rub my thumb over her shoulder. My driver has kept his gaze on the road the entire time. Instead of returning to the hotel, I take her to her apartment.

I want to take her back to my place, but with the fuss of my mother, Angel, and Dominic there, I decide to give her what she’s been demanding… space.

I wonder when I became attached to her. I’ve only ever known obsession, and I’m still telling myself that’s all it is. But with Rya, I’m entertained by her quick wit and, well, situations such as tonight. And her body drives me cruelly insane. Once I had my first taste, I haven’t been able to stop.

I don’t know anything about love.

But not having Rya by my side is not an option.

And there isn’t much time left for her to feel like she has that choice.

But for now, I’ll let her sleep.

CHAPTER 48

Rya

Today, I woke with a seriously bad headache and vague memories of the night before. I grumble a complaint to myself. What had I been thinking? It’s been so long since I dropped my guard like that. Was it because I felt safe with Dawson? Or maybe I really am having a mental breakdown.

It’s now been over a month since Crue stepped into my life again, and it’s been nothing but chaos ever since. My pussy pulses with regret. Not only did I give in to him, but I initiated it. And I still didn’t get laid.

“Kill me now,” I mumble into my pillow.

“I think the hangover is doing a pretty good job of that,” Angel says as she walks into my room with a glass of juice and what smells like burned toast.

I look between her and the toast, my head throbbing. “I can see your cooking skills haven’t improved.”

“Shut up.” She laughs as she waddles further and sits at the end of my bed as I lean against the headboard and bring my knees up to my chest. A quick swirl encouraging another nauseous wave.

“Wow, I haven’t seen you this rough since my fifteenth birthday, and we drank that entire bottle of vodka.”

The memory brings another twinge of nausea.

“Any demons you’re particularly running away from this time?” she asks.

We both know what I’m running away from. “Not demons. A demon,” I correct as I take the glass of juice.

“Well, that same demon took care of you all night. And I’m certain he burned those shoes the moment I arrived to take his place. He had to deal with some work.”

I hold my head in my hands. “This is the exact opposite of how I want to feel for court tomorrow.”

“So let’s have a Netflix day and order takeout.” She awkwardly stands, holding her back as she does. The more I see her, the more heavily pregnant she seems.

“Only one more week until you go, huh?” And I feel sad knowing she’ll be leaving. I’ve gotten used to her being here.

“Don’t go all sentimental on me now.” Angel laughs.

“Not even while hungover,” I promise.

Sentimentality is not my thing. And yet, when I remove the blanket, it reveals that Crue has once again clasped the anklet with his initial around my ankle. It isn’t so much sentiment as it is an unnegotiable possession.

CHAPTER 49

Rya

A wave of pure adrenaline washes over me as the jury and judge award my winning case. That’s why I love this job. That recognition is the best along with the hefty paycheck.

The time for resting will come, as it always does, but for some reason, I feel even more exhilarated than usual by this win. I’ve been working so hard on this case, and despite how chaotic my life has been with Crue in tow, I won. Again.

I humbly answered questions and thanked reporters for their dedication to the case, and now I sit across from Andreas and Matteo in my office. Luckily, I hadn’t seen either of them at the party two nights ago. Not that it changed anything. As of this afternoon, I’m done with the Torrisi family.
