“Breaker, calm down,” Indy cautions. I’m sure she can tell I’m at the end of my rope.

“Yeah, Breaker, listen to her, man. You don’t want to do this. We’re family.”

“We aren’t shit,” I tell the man. “You and this bitch come in here insulting my family. I won’t allow anyone to hurt Indy.”

“She’s your family? Well, that’s just rich. You’re a piece of shit. Do you know that, Mattie? We’ve been worried to death about you. Every single one of us has been busting our ass to find you and all this time you’ve been here with this—”

“I’m warning you, one more word against Indy and you won’t be able to speak again because I’ll rip your damn tongue out of your head.”

“You’d pick this bitch over your own sister?” the girl huffs.

“I don’t remember you, but even if I did, I would pick Indy any day of the week over you.”

“You don’t remember me?” she says, her face filling with pain.

“I don’t, and right at this moment, I wish I had never met you. I don’t see how I’d ever put up with you in my past.” I say the words out of anger, but I regret them a little when I see the pain slash across her face.

“How dare you!” she cries as tears fall from her eyes. “You bastard!” she screams as she slaps me across my face.

“Leave my Bwaker alone!” Tinny yells from the door. She takes off running toward me. I barely have time to lean down and scoop her up before she jumps into my arms. I notice Cooper and Iva standing there watching everything. I see the anger on their faces and for some reason that allows me to calm down a little—or maybe that’s because Tinny is in my arms.

Indy steps up beside me, and my free arm automatically reaches out and pulls her to me. “I think it would be better if we moved this into the house. Can I ask your name?” she says to the girl standing and staring at me like I just ripped out her heart.

“I’m Joker, I’m a member of the same club as Breaker and this is Skylar,” the man says, pulling the girl back against him, his arm holding her tight. “She’s Breaker’s little sister.”

“Bwaker is mine,” Tinny says, claiming me. I notice the surprise on both their faces, but they soften at the same time.

Indy reaches over and ruffles her hair while I kiss Tinny’s cheek. “I realize we have a lot to discuss, but I’d rather do that when we’re all calmer,” I answer, my voice still gruff.

“Maybe we could all move to the house? I brought a bucket of chicken and sides. We can all sit down and have dinner,” Iva says.

“Chicken sounds good,” I answer, grinning down at the little girl who might not share my blood but is mine in every other way.

“Me and Aunt Iva made chocolate chip cookies for you!”

“All for Breaker? What about me?” Indy asks.

“Nope, all for my Bwaker,” she proclaims proudly.

Indy huffs, making me laugh. “Let’s get to the house. I need a cookie from my best girl.”

“That’s me,” Tinny says. That doesn’t shock me. It’s the way she’s staring at Skylar with anger that does that. “He’s going to be my daddy. Right, Bwaker?”

“Right, Tinny,” I murmur, kissing her cheek again. Indy gasps, and when I look at her, I see tears in her eyes. “Let’s get to the house. Lead the way, Cooper,” I tell him, clearing my throat. Skylar stares at all of us for a minute. Nods for a second and then shocks me by coming over to Indy and hugging her. Indy is awkward for a minute before she returns the hug. “I’m sorry,” the girl says, before turning to me. “I’m sorry, Tinny. I’m very glad my brother has you. He’s wanted you and your mother for a long time.”

“That’s cause we’re a family,” Tinny says. My heart squeezes in my chest with her words.

I don’t know what’s about to happen, but I’m positive whatever does isn’t important. I have my girls and that’s all I need.

Chapter 23

Indy

“You really don’t remember anything?” Skylar asks Breaker.

We’re all in my kitchen, sitting at the table. Iva set up all the food. I was going to help her, but Breaker grabbed me and made me sit down beside him. He’s gripping my hand tightly, refusing to let go. Tinny is picking up on his nerves. Or maybe she has some of her own because she’s not leaving his side.

“Nothing. Joker looks a little familiar, but I can’t really call that a memory or say that I know him,” he answers, squeezing my hand.

“How do you know your road name then?” she continues to question.

“That’s on me. When I found him, he had on a black leather vest that I’ve seen members of other clubs wear. It had the name Breaker on it.”
