The look on each face is indescribable, right before they all burst out laughing. “Like he’s going to let you have a say in any of this,” Erika says and it’s my turn to look at her shocked. “I tried to leave Cooper twice.” She holds up two fingers. “Now we have a million kids.” I laugh at her.
“I tried to leave Michael.” I look over at Jillian, my eyebrows pinch together.
“He knocked you up.” Alex gasps. “You thought he was letting you go with half of him inside you?”
“What about you?” Jillian looks at Alex and laughs. “You left on a plane away from Dylan, how did that work out for you?”
“Amazing,” Alex replies. “Thanks for asking.”
“I didn’t know exactly how dysfunctional this family actually was,” Vivienne says, “until right now.”
“You know better than that.” Franny looks at me. “If he’s in. He’s in for life.”
“I’m Cooper’s second wife,” Erika says.
“Yeah, we don’t know what happened with him,” Alex says. “Uncle Matthew is never going to live that down, just like my father is never going to live down he ‘stole’ my mother.”
I put my hand on my stomach. “Listen, there is no amount of shooing him away that is going to work.”
“Yeah,” Vivienne says, “it’s like a fruit fly. No matter how many times you slap it away, it always comes back.”
I don’t say anything else because someone scores and the talk turns to something else. Leaving me with my own thoughts. When he calls me later that night, he senses that something is off. “What’s with you tonight?”
“We need to talk when you get home,” I say, not even sure what we need to talk about but there are things that need to be said.
“Sounds good,” he says and doesn’t even pry to know what I want to talk about.
“That’s it?” I ask him and he laughs.
“Well, I’m assuming if you wanted to tell me what it was, you would have just said it, instead of doing the whole secret thing.” I can’t help but close my eyes. “Besides, I get to see you and kiss the shit out of you.”
The next day, I want to say I’m not waiting for the knock on the door but I’d be fucking lying. I wait for him while I sit on the couch, checking the time on the phone every ten seconds because it feels like it’s been an hour. When I do hear the knock, I fly off the couch and run to the door. Opening the lock, I try to remain unfazed by him, but I fail miserably. He’s wearing jeans and a black polo shirt. His hair is pushed back on one side while the other side hangs loose. His scruff is a bit longer than it was the last time and my fingers tingle to touch it.
The only thing I know is I smile and jump into his arms. He catches me around my waist. “Hi,” I greet him, wrapping my arms around his neck. He walks us into my apartment, kicking the door closed with his foot.
“Hi.” He smiles and my head slowly moves down to kiss his lips. The butterflies already going nuts in my stomach. His eyes light up to a clear blue, and it’s the last thing I see before I close my eyes and slide my tongue into his mouth. He moves to the couch, sitting down, and I straddle him. His cock strains through his pants and I can’t help but grind on it.
I put my forehead on his when I let go of his lips. My hands leave from around his neck to touch his face. “Hi,” I say softly as I kiss his lips again.
“Hi.” His hands go to my ass as he pushes me more onto him. “We should get this talk over with,” he suggests, rubbing his nose with mine.
“I should get off you, then.” I say the words but nothing in me even makes an attempt to get up.
“No.” He shakes his head. “I haven’t touched you in three days.” He kisses my jaw. “So you stay here.”
“I can’t really think when I have your hands on me.” I’ve never been this honest before, usually I just skate around the subject, but with him, it’s a whole different ball game. I don’t even know if I’m in the game. “What is this?”
“You are going to have to be a little bit more detailed than that.” He laughs and I sit up, my hands falling to his chest. I feel his heart beating under my right hand, and it’s beating as fast as my heart is.
“Like, this me-and-you thing.” When the words come out of me, I want to take them back. “God, that sounds so needy.” I try to make a joke out of it. “Obviously, it’s not anything. We’ve been on like two dates. I mean, technically, I don’t think we’ve been on any dates.”
