“Why wouldn’t you be able to hold my hand?” I ask as I slip my hand into his, and our fingers fold together.
“I don’t know. We are out in public,” he reminds me, looking down. “And we may see people you know.”
I can’t help but stop the way my heart is beating at the fact that he sleeps with me every single night, yet he’s afraid to hold my hand in public. “I would very much like to hold your hand,” I confirm, and he lifts our joined hands up to his lips as he kisses my fingers.
“So I was thinking,” he starts, and I can tell he’s nervous. “That maybe one of these days we can go out on a date.”
I roll my lips to keep from laughing. “Is that what you were thinking?” I ask, leaning closer to him. His finger unlocks from mine as he gently puts his arm around me, pulling me closer to him. “I don’t know about you.” I slip my own arm around his waist. “But I consider this to be a date.”
“Is that so?” He looks down at me as I look up at him and nod. “If this is a date, should I be able to, I don’t know, say kiss you?”
“I don’t know the rules of Dating 101.” I try not to laugh. “But I think there should definitely be some kissing.”
“I agree with that.” He nods his head, and we aren’t even paying attention to any of the tents we’re passing by.
We’re fixated on each other, our feet moving at the same time. “What else is there on a date?” I ask.
“I mean, if it’s a good date, there should be some making out in the car.” I nod when he says this.
“It’s always a good date when there is some heavy making out in the car.” I look ahead at everyone. “What about groping?”
“Ohh, second base.” He laughs. “That’s a good base to be at.”
“I mean, it is a good base, but third base.” I look up at him. “Now, third base, that is where it’s at.”
“What is third base exactly?” he asks as his eyes meet mine, and we basically stop in the middle of the pathway. He turns to look at me, his hand grabbing one of mine.
“Oh, that base consists of below the belt.” I laugh. “Sometimes, one can slide into the base.”
“With their mouths?” He winks at me.
“I mean, is there any other way to slide into third base?” I ask, and I look down below his belt to see that his cock is starting to get into the action. I step into him. “I mean, I like third base and all but…” I step in a touch more, my head tilted back, waiting for him to kiss me. “But nothing is better than knocking that hit out of the park and getting a home run.”
Chapter 25
Luke
“I need to order a couple of things.” I look over at Mikaela as I do inventory, closing the produce fridge. The phone rings from my back pocket. Reaching around, I take it out and see that it’s Clarabella calling. My whole face fills with a smile, and I can’t help it.
Turning around, I walk out of the kitchen before I press the green button. “Hey, beautiful,” I greet softly, looking around to make sure no one hears me.
“Hi.” She sounds like she is rushing around, the sound of her heels clicking in the background.
“Um.”
“Um,” I repeat after laughing at how nervous her tone comes out. “Are you okay?”
“No,” she says, and my heart immediately stops in my chest. I feel the color draining from my face, and the only thing going through my mind is to get the fuck to her.
“What happened?” I ask, and I’m already walking to the back door. I cover the bottom of the phone and look over at Mikaela. “Mikaela, I have an emergency.” Her eyes go wide, and she nods at me so I know she’s going to handle this when I get into the truck. “Where are you?”
“I’m at the venue,” she says, and I can’t even control the way my heart is beating. I literally think I’m going to be sick as I peel out of the parking lot.
“I’ll be there in five minutes,” I say into the phone. The past three weeks have been a complete dream with her. There has never been any other time in my life when I have felt so settled and so fucking complete. There has never been any other time in my life when I felt like I deserved this before and put someone before me. Ever. I make sure that I schedule myself off when she has the days off. There has also never been any other time in my life when I smile more than anything. Every night I go to bed holding her and wake up next to her, and I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.
