I tilt my head.

“That doesn’t sound bad. I like Nutella on my bagels.”

Angie lets out a half-laugh, half-cry, and swats my arm gently. “You know what I’m saying!”

I chuckle and pull her close, resting my chin on her head. “Yes, I think I do know what you’re trying to tell me.”

Angie bites her lip and nods. “I haven’t taken a test yet, but I’m two weeks late so I’m pretty sure. And you know there were a few times when we didn’t use protection, so I’m fairly certain I’m pregnant. You’re going to be a daddy, Peter.”

My heart jolts, and wrapping my arms around her curvy frame, I lean down to kiss that plush pout. She giggles against my lips. “I guess you aren’t mad.”

“Mad? Hell no. You’re going to be so beautiful pregnant with our child. I can’t wait to see your tummy swollen with my baby, and of course, I want any child you and I make together. I love you, sweetheart, and this is the answer to my dreams.”

“Really?” Angie murmurs, her eyes going misty again.

“Really,” I growl. Then, I grab her hand and start pulling her towards the door. The curvy girl laughs with surprise but follows along. “What are you doing?”

I smile back at her. “We’re going to the closest drug store to buy a pregnancy test right now. If it’s a possibility, then I want to make sure because this is the best gift I’ve ever gotten. And then I’m taking you home, and making love to you all night just in case you’re not pregnant. That way, you’ll definitely be pregnant by the time you climb out of my bed the next morning. Besides, we’ve got two days to make up for, baby girl. My mattress has been cold without you.”

She laughs, but then squeezes my hand.

“Sounds fun, Mr. Wilshire,” she murmurs.

I wink at her.

“It’s going to be more than fun, Miss Richardson. It’s going to be fucking heavenly.”

And with that, our laughs mingle as we make our way downstairs. After all, I have everything I need before me: the woman I love, and hopefully, a baby in her stomach too. I never thought I’d end up with an escort from City Girls, but then again, Angela Richardson was never really an escort. It was just a mistake at the beginning, but even the worst mistakes can sometimes have the best endings.

Epilogue

Angie

Six months later.

“Oh, honey. You look so beautiful.”

I meet my grandmother’s eyes in the mirror and smile. There are tears dancing in Grams’ eyes, but I know they’re the happy kind because she hasn’t stopped smiling since I revealed that Peter and I were engaged. Grandma May has come a long way since I first told her about the man I love, and it didn’t take long to win her over. She said that as long as I’m happy, then she’s happy, and I appreciate her understanding.

Looking down, I cradle my belly and at that moment, I feel our little girl kick the palm of my hand. It’s more of a flutter than anything, and a huge smile lights my face.

“Did the darling just kick?” my grandma asks.

I nod happily.

“She’s going to be a soccer player, that’s for sure!”

After all, I’m in my second trimester now, and my belly is huge but I cherish it. This mound is a reminder of the love I have growing inside me, and the man who put the baby there. I’ll never forget Peter’s face the moment we found out we were having a girl. He looked proud and terrified at the same time.

“OMG,” he whispered, utterly stunned. “What do I do?”

I giggled at the ob-gyn’s office.

“You buy a baseball bat, and keep it on hand to threaten any potential suitors with.”

He merely slapped a palm to his face, still murmuring, “OMG, OMG.”

But when we got back to his penthouse, Peter dropped to one knee.

“I want to marry you, sweetheart,” he rasped, those blue eyes shining. “You’re everything to me, and with our daughter in your belly, I want you to become Mrs. Wilshire.”

Of course, I happily agreed, and now, I have a giant five carat diamond shining on my left hand. We did all the wedding planning at light speed, and today’s the big day.

“You know,” I say, looking back up in the mirror to meet Grams’ eyes, “I was afraid of what I’d look like in this dress so pregnant. But you and Emory were right. I actually think being pregnant makes me look even better in this gown.”

Grams laughs fondly.

“There is nothing more beautiful in this world than a mother’s love, and you’re glowing with it,” Grandma says. “Besides, there’s nothing wrong with having a big belly either. Lots of women get married these days while they’re expecting, or even after they’ve delivered the child.”
