“Come over here on the couch, Dom. Let me look at your nose. You’re dripping all over the floor.”

“It’s not really bleeding now. It was a weak ass hit,” Dom counters.

“I pulled my punches,” Dragon huffs.

“Whatever lets you sleep at night, old man,” I huff. “Thea, sweetheart, I don’t think blood is anything we need to worry about. The floor literally has a hole in it now.”

“Get over here,” I snap. He smiles at me and Dragon laughs.

“I always told you son, get a woman with grit. I’m thinking you got one here that has extra.”

“Yeah,” Dom says as he walks over to sit down. I go down on my knees in front of him and start cleaning up his face. I wince as he flinches, letting me know it’s painful.

“You two should be ashamed of yourselves.”

“It’s just a little fight,” Dom mutters.

“With your father. This isn’t how you’re supposed to solve problems.”

“You sound like my woman,” Dragon mutters.

“It’s good to know someone in your family has brains. How do you think she’s going to react knowing her husband busted their son’s nose?”

“Fuck, I’ll probably be sleeping in the garage.”

“The garage?” I ask as I continue cleaning Dom’s face. Remarkably, it really isn’t bleeding that much. I’m just being careful as I try to clean him.

“The garage couch is more comfortable,” Dragon explains.

“Well, you better go home and kiss her ass because once you tell her about this and King, you’ll be lucky if you aren’t sleeping in a hotel for a while.”

“I didn’t want you to hear this shit. Nicole will be hurt. Fuck, I’ll probably be served with divorce papers,” Dragon says, and I can hear the panic in his voice.

“It won’t come to that,” I tell him, trying to give him hope.

“You’d forgive Dom if he were in my shoes?”

“King is older than Dom. Anything that happened was before the two of you were together. It may be painful because of some of the past I overheard the two of you arguing about. But if she forgave you then, she’ll forgive you now.”

“You sound positive,” Dragon says, and when I look up at him, I almost feel sorry for him. He’d never admit it, but he’s scared.

“I’m not saying you won’t have to work for it, because you will. Still, she will. You need to deal with it now, though. She’s not stupid. She’s probably already wondering about everything. If she finds out that you knew and didn’t tell her…”

“I’ll go do it now.” He starts to leave, but stops, then he rubs the back of his neck—much like Dom does. Turning back around, he marches over to us and stands in front of Dom. He looks down at his son like he’s trying to find words but can’t.

Dom hands me the towel and reluctantly stands. “Dad, I really—”

He doesn’t get to finish. Dragon wraps his arms around his son and hugs him tight. Dom remains stiff and unmoving for a minute before he lifts one arm and presses his hand against his back. It’s not a warm return hug, but then, I don’t think Dragon has earned one of those yet.

“I’m sorry, Son. I should have talked to you. I’ve watched you go down the wrong road and I couldn’t get you to listen to me. I held shit against you that we should have talked about. I should have shielded you better. Most of all, I’m really fucking sorry for what happened here.”

“I pushed your buttons,” Dom mutters.

“You’re damn good at it, but I needed it. It’s not many that are strong enough to call me on my shit. When you’re ready, I’d like it if we could sit down and talk.”

“I’ll let you know.”

“I want you to come back to the club, Dom.”

“Let’s not push it right now.”

Dragon doesn’t look happy, but he nods. “Thea, I wish you knew how happy I am that you have my son’s back.”

I nod, unsure of what to say. Hell, it sounds like he’s saying goodbye. I look at Dom and he’s still stiff. There’s a cavern a mile wide between father and son, and I don’t think it’s going to be easy to mend.

I also don’t think there’s a damn thing I can do.

Chapter 38

Dom

“You’re quiet today.”

I pull my gaze from the road in front of me to look at my woman. I squeeze her hand. “I’m okay, Gorgeous.”

“You’ve been quiet since your father left yesterday.”

“It was a rough day,” I admit. Shit, the fight with my dad is something I never imagined happening. He and I both have hot heads, so we’ve clashed quite a bit. I never dreamed it would become physical, though. I glance down at the clock that’s on the pad screen of my truck. We’ll be at T’s in a few minutes. I’m a bundle of nerves and I want to kick my own ass for it. T is my brother. It might be a little stilted at first, but I know the two of us will work it out.
