I lift her dress and cover her tits back up. She turns and looks over her shoulder in the mirror at herself before her eyes come to mine. “I look well loved.” Her hands go to her hair, and our eyes lock in the mirror.

“You are.”

Chapter Nine

Mila

I play with the end of my dress, feeling a little shy as I think about all the things we did. I had his cock in my mouth. I touched myself until I came, right in front of him. I still have traces of his cum on my breasts under the dress. I can smell him. I peek over at him. His face is unreadable, but he has a possessive arm around me.

“There are going to be a lot of pictures,” I tell Jax, wondering how he’s going to react to that. I’ve been doing this a long time and I’m still not used to all the cameras at times. It can be a lot to take in.

“Where you go I go.” He strokes his thumb over my bare arm.

“Good.” I lay my head on his shoulder. “We don’t have to stay long. Just enough for them to get some pictures. Press is always good for things like this.”

“You care a lot about this.”

I nod and smile. “I’ve always loved dogs. I could never have one because I travel so much, but this is something I can be a part of. It makes me feel like I’m making a little bit of a difference in the world and that I’m not just a pretty face,” I admit.

“You’re more than a pretty face. I knew that the moment you walked into that dressing room. I could feel it. See it. It’s in your eyes. Others see it, too. It floats around you. I can feel it in the air.”

I turn to look at him, my eyes filling with tears. “That’s the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me.”

His other hand comes up to stroke my cheek. “Do you not want to do this anymore?” His eyes roam over my face and I know he’s trying to get a read on me. He’s good at reading people, I’ve noticed. His eyes take everything in. I’m pretty sure he’s aware of every breath I take.

“It’s all I know.” I drop back in my seat. What else would I do? I didn’t go to college. I got my GED online.

“You’re young. You can do anything.” He keeps stroking my arm, and I wonder what I would have done if I’d never been a model. How different my life would have been. Where I might be right now. When I peek back over at Jax, I know I’m happy this is the path I took in life. It brought me to this man. He’s unlike anyone I’ve ever meet before. But he’s right. I don’t have to do this anymore. Heck, I could retire if I wanted and do something else, though my mom might fly off the handle at that idea. I can still hear her words: “Mila, you only have a few more good years before you aren’t so pretty anymore.”

“Did you always want to be a bodyguard?” I ask, realizing how little I actually know about him. It feels like I’ve known him so much longer than I have.

“I don’t normally do this. A friend called in a favor.”

“Really?” I ask. He seems like a natural. “What do you do then?”

“I used to be a federal agent,” he admits, shrugging like it’s no big deal.

“That how you got this?” I reach up and touch the scar on his face.

“Yeah, I traded myself for a hostage.” He grabs my hand and kisses my palm. “Things got messy, but everyone lived. Well, everyone that mattered did.” His words hang in the air.

“You killed them? The bad guys?”

He nods.

“So, you’re a real life hero?” I smile. I’m not shocked by this. He’s such a caring man. It’s easy to see with the way he treats me, but he’s also deadly. That’s clear to see, too.

“Just yours now,” he teases me, making me smile.

“What do you do now if you’re not an agent, besides guarding me?”

“I still consult for the FBI from time to time. Mainly I work on my home. I’ve spent the last few years building it. Plus, I live on a lot of land and like to tend to it myself.”

“Where?”

“Colorado.”

“God, I’ve always wanted to go there. It looks so pretty.” I’ve been a lot of places in my life, but that isn't one of them and I’ve always wanted to go but felt weird traveling anywhere alone.

“You will.” He kisses my shoulder than under my ear. “Soon.”

I reach over and place my hand on his thigh. I want that so badly, to see the home that he built with his own hands. This man really is a warrior.
