Our bodies slapped together. His nails dug into my hips. I looked back again, and his eyes were on my face, holding me, something in them I couldn’t read.

“You’re so good, fucking me so good, Clark. I’m not gonna be able to get enough of it.”

He growled again, leaned over so he could stroke my dick as he fucked into me. My balls were already so damn full, they hurt. The feel of his hand on my shaft, his cock in my ass, and his body over mine was all I needed to dissolve into my orgasm. My cock twitched and spurted, my whole body tingly and weak.

“Oh shit. The way you just squeezed me. I’m gonna…” His words made another spurt of come shoot out of me and onto his hand just as Clark’s cock jerked in my ass and he succumbed to his orgasm as well.

We fell onto the bed together, breathing heavily. We were silent for a few minutes, and then he asked, “It was…it was good?”

“Did you hear how hard I came? Christ, it was fucking great. Best I ever had.” I kissed his chest.

“Yeah, okay. Whatever.”

Clark got up, and I wanted to tug him back to me but didn’t. He got rid of the condom and came back with a washcloth. I lay there and let him clean me up, take care of me, make me feel special, which was dangerous and stupid and…God, I didn’t want it to stop.

He tossed the cloth into the laundry basket, turned the light out, and pulled me close.

“Best I ever had too,” he said softly, then drifted off to sleep.

But not me. I stayed awake, savoring this, the feel of his arms around me, wondering how I was ever going to let it go.

Clark

“There’s even a hot tub,” I was telling my clients—a newly married couple—as we moved toward the back deck of the house that just went up for sale in a prominent neighborhood in one of Portland’s suburbs. “Let me show you.”

As we walked outside, the sun warmed my cheeks, and I absently wondered if Skylar would enjoy hanging out in a hot tub. I mean, who wouldn’t? Truth was, he was never far from my thoughts, and somehow my brain was beginning to configure him in every facet of my life.

Especially since the night I’d fucked him. Damn, I’d enjoyed it so much…too much. Maybe because it was him, or because I’d finally gotten brave and asked for what I wanted. But most likely because of the way he’d responded to me. Christ. So hot and needy…

I tried to refocus on my clients as we went inside to see the rest of the place.

“We’d like to put in an offer,” my clients said once they saw the four bedrooms upstairs.

“Awesome.” We headed toward the driveway. “I’ll draw up the papers, and we’ll be in touch.”

All the way back to the office, Skylar was still on my mind. We were going to grab dinner, then watch a movie tonight since he was off, and that felt like a rare treat. In three days he would be moving back to his apartment, and we would no longer see each other in the in-between moments, like when I got home from work and before he went off to the Playground. Or when he returned in the middle of the night. My stomach dipped. Those were the moments I looked forward to on a daily basis. But I supposed we could always text and make plans to see each other, like regular friends did.

Okay, maybe he felt like more than a friend, but I couldn’t allow myself to get lost in that fantasy world. My feelings for him went deeper than I was willing to admit, and they were wrapped up with the nostalgia of our rekindled friendship, which meant that separating the two would be tricky. But I’d need to when the time came to let go. Sky would undoubtedly break it to me gently when he’d want to move on, and I would handle it just fine. I hoped.

Catching up on paperwork at my desk, I was summoned to a meeting with my parents and Mr. Whitney, my parents’ partner in the business, who also happened to be Dad’s best friend from college.

“We plan to break ground on the new building next month,” Mr. Whitney was saying.

That would make three Havemeyer and Whitney branches, which was something else. When my parents first envisioned this business, they’d never expected it to expand so quickly.

“And I was thinking, how about having Clark overseeing the plans?” Mr. Whitney winked at me. He was a kind man, with a son of his own, who worked in the second branch. Maybe he recognized something in me that I didn’t see. Like Skylar did.
