“Yes. The whole world seemed to turn differently on its axis when he was gone so suddenly. At least I had the home we’d shared. It contained so many memories that comforted me after the shock of his passing eased.”
“So your house is like a safe place?”
“That’s it exactly. I’m just not ready to give that up yet,” she confessed honestly, watching his face to see if he understood. To her relief, he simply nodded and pulled her close once again.
“You’ll know when it’s the right time. I do want you to know that my home is now officially yours as well. I don’t plan on ever letting you go.”
“I like that, Daddy. Thank you. I don’t want to let you go either.”
They sat together for several minutes, enjoying holding each other close. Finally, Hunter broke the silence, asking, “What do you think Tangerine is up to? Everything is awfully quiet.”
“Maybe we should go check on him,” CC suggested.
Hunter helped her to her feet and took her hand as they walked through the house, searching for the usually talkative cat. He stopped when he walked into the nursery. “Smart cat.”
“He’s playing in here?” CC asked, looking around. A giggle escaped her lips as she spotted a large orange lump curled up on the soft pink comforter inside the crib. “Looks like he found a place to rest as well.”
She walked forward to lean over the lowered front railing of the crib to pet Tangerine. “Hey, boy. Think this is going to be an okay place?”
The large feline wrapped his paws over his eyes and rolled into a tighter ball. It looked like the cat had decided her special bed was a purrfect place to nap. CC was tempted to climb up inside with him. She yawned widely.
“Looks like my Little girl needs a nap as well. Let’s get you undressed, and you can sleep for a bit while I get dinner ready.” Hunter turned her to face him and tugged her T-shirt over her head. Within seconds, he had her dirty moving clothes removed.
Spanking her bottom lightly, he urged her into bed. After tucking the comforter around her, Hunter kissed her forehead. “Rest well, Pumpkin.”
“Can I have Zigzag and Hunter?” she whispered.
“Of course.”
CC hugged the zebra and kitten to her chest and closed her eyes. She tumbled into sleep, not hearing her Daddy’s quiet footsteps leave the room.
“Dinner’s ready, Pumpkin. Can you wake up for Daddy?” Hunter’s deep voice wrapped around her as he rubbed her back, easing her from sleep.
CC stretched her arms and legs out. Her fingertips and toes touched the enclosed sides of the crib. She smiled, enjoying the feeling of being protected completely inside. A disturbed meow clued her in that Tangerine didn’t approve of her nudging him as she sprawled across the mattress.
“Sorry, Tangerine. Daddy says it’s time to wake up. Would you like to have dinner, too?”
The meow that answered her had completely lost its peeved tone and now sounded eager. Her beloved cat stood and stretched, pausing for some face scratches before jumping to the floor and heading out of the nursery.
CC giggled. “I better hurry. Tangerine gets annoyed if he has to wait.”
“We know who runs this household,” Hunter joked as he helped CC down from the elevated bed.
“Daddy does,” she answered dutifully before dissolving into more laughter when he shot her a comical look of disbelief.
“Come on, Pumpkin. Let’s get some clothes on you so we can eat.”
As he helped her step into panties and soft leggings, Hunter shared, “We’re having spaghetti tonight.”
“I love spaghetti, but I always spill something on me,” she confessed.
“In that case, no top for you at dinner. We’ll put a bib around you for protection.”
Hunter took her hand and led her from the nursery. When CC wrapped a hand around her bare breasts, he stopped. “Don’t hide from Daddy.”
“But…” CC’s gaze searched her Daddy’s face. He wasn’t going to change his mind. “I can’t eat without a top on.”
“Little girls don’t need to wear clothes that are simply going to get stained. A bib will protect your skin and we can get the mess off it easily.”
His logic was irrefutable. Slowly, CC lowered her hand. Her Daddy rewarded her with a quick kiss before resuming his path to the kitchen. When they arrived, CC paused next to the chair she usually sat in. There was something strange strapped onto the wooden seat.
“What’s that?”
“Your safety chair. Sit down and Daddy will show you how it fits around you.”
Doubting that she was going to like this, CC followed his directions. The addition was solidly tethered to the chair below. She watched as Hunter adjusted the straps around her waist and allowed him to spread her legs apart to draw an additional strap snug against her mound.
“Try to wiggle,” he suggested.
