“Want to tell me your favorite cupcake?” he teased.
“No way. Tell me about your day,” Riley countered.
“Every shift has happy moments and tough ones. I try to remember that frequently this is the worst day in someone’s life, and I do everything I can to make it less sucky. I did deliver a baby today. That’s always fun.”
“Really? By the side of the road?” she asked, turning around to look at him.
“Nope. In the middle of someone’s walk-in closet. The mom couldn’t decide what to wear and it all happened too fast. Her husband was beside himself but was so strong for her. I had an audience too.”
“I wouldn’t want anyone watching that,” Riley said with a definite tone.
“Their Cavapoo curled up about a foot away to welcome his new sister into the world. The two are going to be best buddies,” Milo assured her.
Chapter Four
As Milo pulled up to the local family-owned pizza place, he glanced at Riley and set a hand on hers. “Wait for me to come around and let you out, baby.”
She stared at him with her adorable wide blue eyes. He could get lost in them, and he hoped to. In fact, he held her gaze for several seconds, his hand still on top of hers over her thigh.
Her lips parted as if she wanted to say something.
“What is it, baby?”
She licked those pretty lips with her pink tongue, making him wish he could bend down and kiss her, but he thought he should save kissing her senseless for after their meal. He already knew she was an amazing kisser from the bathroom yesterday when his bold Little girl took control and pressed her lips to his.
Something had shifted in their relationship when he’d bandaged her hand at Little Cakes, and that something had dug in deep when they’d shared that intimate moment in the bathroom.
“I didn’t know you were a Daddy,” she whispered.
He nodded. “Not many people know.”
“Why? I’ve known you for a few months. I’ve never seen you with a Little. I’ve only known you to be a Shibari expert.”
“Maybe that’s because I was waiting for the perfect Little girl to notice me.”
She sucked in a breath. “Me?”
Milo gave her a slow smile. “Yeah, you.” He lifted her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles.
Her eyes widened.
“Are you more than a badass bartender with sexy tattoos?”
She frowned. “Of course I am. I’m also a cupcake lover and a Little.” Her hand flew to her mouth as if she hadn’t meant to say so much.
He grinned. “Well, I’m more than a Shibari expert and an EMT.” He lifted a brow.
“Oh. Right. Of course.” She shifted in her seat.
He chuckled. “Stay put, baby.” He dropped her hand so he could exit the car and round the hood to let her out.
He loved that she was so stunned she still had her seatbelt on because it meant he got to reach across her and unfasten it before taking her hand and helping her from the car.
There was no mistaking the fact that Riley had many facets. When she worked at the bar, she truly was on fire and badass. She could remember several orders at once and moved like lightning to fill them.
She often wore a tank top when she was behind the bar, probably because she got too warm otherwise. He loved the way she always had on a brightly colored lace bra that didn’t necessarily match the tank top. Orange and purple or yellow and red. It was impossible to know what her favorite color was, which was making it challenging trying to figure out which cupcake was her favorite.
When Riley wasn’t working at Blaze, she often went to the daycare with the other Littles. She took on a completely different persona when she was Little. One that intrigued him and had for a long time.
The reason he hadn’t approached her before now was because she usually looked away from him when he came near the daycare. He couldn’t be sure if she was shy or had no interest in him.
It was perplexing because she was friendly and talkative when she was at the bar, but when he tried to make eye contact with her at the daycare, she would clam up. Her cheeks turned pink as if she were embarrassed. Her Little had a shy side that was endearing.
The problem was he’d assumed she wasn’t interested, so he’d never approached her out of respect. Until two days ago when he came into Little Cakes and met a third Riley personality.
It was like she was in between. Both badass and Little. His heart stopped when she got flustered and tongue-tied every time she glanced at him while simultaneously handling the cupcake orders.
He loved the way she teased him about her favorite flavor, playfully. He didn’t miss the way Ellie seemed to catch on to not only Milo’s interest in Riley, but also Riley’s interest in him.
