“No. I’m not at all. I need you to look up everyone who has worked for her, from her mom to the gardener.”

“Okay, no problem.” He looks over at Edge, “Hand me a Red Bull?”

“I need Mike Zane’s location, and Ace will get people to watch him, but when I say everyone, I mean everyone. I want all secrets, finances, sexual partners…and then look them up.” I look over at Edge, who hands Frosty the can.

“That’s gonna take time.” He stops typing and rolls his neck. “And it’s completely illegal.” Frosty opens the can and starts to chug it like its water, instead of an energy drink.

“Is that a problem?” Looking over at Blade, who stands, arms crossed, watching. Then nods no, walking over to Axel.

“Alright, send me names that you have, and after that I’ll start digging.” He stands and takes his laptop and leaves as I look around the room.

“Is he coming back?”

“Nope. Get Ammo a burner phone, Ryder.” Blade looks over at his giant enforcer.

“Besides Ace, who else knows you’re talking to us?” His green eyes turn deadly serious.

“Just Ace and Rafe,” I state as I accept the phone from Ryder.

“I’ve programmed Frosty’s number in it, everything, all names and correspondence go through that phone.” He nods at me as I start typing Rachel Stewart’s name first on the list.

“Yeah, you might want to talk to Jett Powers about that one.” Ryder looks at my text, then up into my eyes.

What the hell does Ryder know?

“O-kay.” Cocking my head at him, I then look around at all their faces.

“Am I missing something?” Because none of them are smiling or even drinking anymore.

“Trust no one, brother.” Blade reaches for the bottle of tequila on the table.

“I never do.” Pocketing the phone, I feel the hair on the back of my neck stand up because I came here wanting them to find answers.

Good or bad, I’m gonna get them.

COURTNEY

“Courtney, look over here. We love you.” I smile at the throng of people as the cameras just keep snapping shots. My mouth is twitching I’ve smiled so hard, and I’m literally ready to freak the fuck out.

“Where is he?” I turn to Melanie who is waving and happily eating this up. I’ve never been a big fan of walking the red carpet, but it’s part of the job, so I do it. But today, I’m not sure I’m going to make it.

“Forget him and try and relax,” she hisses through all the noise and screaming, turning to talk to another interviewer.

“I can’t breathe.” Tilting my head at her as I blink, the sun is still out, and I couldn’t wear sunglasses because my fake eyelashes were catching on them. Mel looks over at me.

“Yeah, I think we should probably loosen that corset.” Then she turns and steps forward to tell another camera crew what she’s wearing.

Done. I’m done.

“I’ll meet you inside,” I say behind her, even with my five-inch heels, I barely make it to her shoulders. She laughs at something the interviewer says, then grabs my arm as I try and walk past.

“Courtney…you look gorgeous.” The blonde in a bright canary yellow gown and big fake tits screams at me as I turn and stop.

“Thank you.” My top lip now has a life of its own as it continues to twitch. “We better go in, Mel, it’s almost starting.” My eyes plead with hers because this is not fun.

The only positive thing is we both look good. The limo ride was nothing but a mass of noise and self-doubt in my head. Ranging from Mike Zane is going to kill me, to I can’t go out and perform because everyone will hate me. Lastly, and loudest, Ammo is bored and isn’t here because he’s fucking a groupie.

Pathetic.

Jesus, I really do have trust issues. It also doesn’t help that everyone seems to be happy and calm around me, especially when I’m panicking. Why didn’t I have Alberto loosen the corset more? I can’t breathe as I look at Melanie, whose black silk gown sparkles under the sun and lights.

I want to be her; in fact, I’d give anything to change places with her right now. She sat the entire limo ride from Ammo’s place to Crypto sipping champagne and laughing with Lucy and Julie as they touched up her makeup and took fucking selfies. Rachel chain smoked and seemed to be thrilled berating people on her phone. While I hated myself every time I texted him without getting a reply, but did it anyway.

Thank God for Doug. His encouraging, calm voice as he fixed my hair may be the only reason I actually got out of the limo.

“You two beauties just missed Roxy and Pat. You guys are all still close, right?” The blonde smiles like the rat she is. Melanie smiles and digs her nails in my arm because I’m done with this night already. This bitch knows fucking Roxy is pregnant, she just wants to see how I’ll react.
