“I love Rachel. She introduced me to all kinds of people and things…sexually.” She stares at her knees, then slowly over at Jett.

“She needed money after you screwed her over for her daughter,” she spits out. Jett’s jaw tics; otherwise, his face stays the same.

“She was desperate, and Courtney has more money than anyone could ever spend in a hundred lifetimes. So I helped her get back on her feet. It wasn’t hard, Courtney trusts me with her accounts, and she never noticed.”

This is probably the time I should walk away, let Jett handle this whole fucked-up confession of hers. The way I’m feeling, it’s probably best for everyone if I don’t engage.

Courtney’s built a wall trying to protect herself from all this, but the fucking wolves were already inside her castle.

“Rachel promised me she would get my lyrics to Courtney, but then Johnny got Roxy pregnant, then Courtney spiraled, and locked herself up and wrote her own songs.” She leans her head back on the wall.

“Then you showed up.” She waves her hand in my direction. “That’s when everything went to shit. Because as soon as Courtney got with you, she changed. She wasn’t weak or scared anymore.”

She snorts, disgusted. “Trust me, that frightened Rachel. I guess I was jealous. Rachel got off watching you and Courtney having sex, and that bothered me, you know?” She picks at her jeans.

What the fuck? Inhaling on my cancer stick, I need the nicotine to calm me before I grab her and shake her so hard her teeth rattle. Thankfully, Jett blocks my view as he walks over to Gina.

“Go on.”

Gina nods and exhales dramatically. “Rachel doesn’t love me, I know that. The truth is, I’m just a pawn to her. But I have to do what she says…she has videos. Things that can’t ever come out. She’s threatened to release them to the tabloids. I can’t have my parents seeing that. They’re Catholic. Can you imagine?” She lifts her hands. “Courtney Falcon’s assistant found in seedy sex scandal.”

She starts to laugh, and bile rises up my esophagus. This woman deserves to rot in prison. The thought that I need her, that we’re going to help her, make a deal with her, so that she’ll testify sickens me.

“Tell me about the night she claimed she was drugged? You got her the Rohypnol, didn’t you?”

Jett’s voice makes me come back to the fact that if I want to protect Courtney from the real evil, I need to swallow this sting, and let all the ugliness be purged.

“I did, but you don’t how ruthless she is.” She shakes her head. “She made me use…I had to rape her with—”

“Okay, we get the picture,” Jett interrupts her, holding up his hands.

“It was horrible.” She bites her bottom lip, then snarls, pointing at me. “Why did you have to come in the picture? You ruined everything.” Gina tries to stand as Nuke reaches out to steady her.

“Why?” She screams at me. “I heard you tell Courtney about the money being embezzled. This is your fault; we had no choice after that.” She pushes Nuke away.

“So, yes, I went into Hollywood and bought the Rohypnol, crushed it, and injected it into her hip. We had… sex, and then she entered the house again.” Gina turns to Jett.

“We needed her to be on the cameras. This was just supposed to be insurance to make sure Ammo stayed quiet about the money. But Courtney didn’t believe Rachel.” She shakes her head, getting agitated again, as she starts to rub her hands up and down on her jeans some more, a nervous tic that speaks volumes about her involvement.

“She fired Rachel earlier…” She nods at us, then stares out the window as if she’s listening to someone before turning abruptly to Jett.

“Help me. I want to make a deal. I’ll give you everything, it’s all documented. Just keep me safe, and I’ll hand over all of it, Rachel included.”

I can’t look at her. I’m fighting with every fiber in my body not to scream.

Fuck you. No deal for you!

Jett must feel it…that, or I’m not hiding it well, because he takes Gina’s arm and starts to walk her toward the kitchen.

“Call the LAPD, get them to go to Rachel’s. I want her picked up immediately,” he says calmly over his shoulder. Then silence as I turn to Nuke.

“Fuck, brother.” He exhales and scrubs his hands up and down his face. “That is one sick chick.”

The vibration in my jeans forces my brain to work as I take out the burner and look down at the text that came in ten minutes ago.

AXEL: R has left her house

And my blood pressure spikes. Taking out my other phone, I text:

ME: Rachel is on her way over, call the police

COURTNEY

“I can’t believe you did this.” Melanie stares at my right bicep. “Holy shit.” She sips her margarita as Dalton takes his plastic gloves off.
