Levi lifted his phone from the locker, slamming the door shut while thinking over his missed opportunity of being alone with Thane in his hotel room this very minute. His dick actually hurt with the need that mental image created. If he weren’t so dumb, so self-righteous, he could have had Thane on his knees sucking him off right now. Hell, they didn’t even have to have sex; just being near Thane would be enough. He’d love to discuss nothing important while lying in that comfortable bed, holding Thane, their bodies aligned as he ran his fingertips along the light fur covering Thane’s chest.
Levi closed his eyes and dropped his head forward, banging against the cold metal while remembering the sense of loss he’d experienced when he slipped free of Thane’s body earlier.
Levi pushed away from the locker. He didn’t need any more mental bullshit. Not now. He was too vulnerable, and his focus had to be on the future. His brothers were doing well right now. He couldn’t lose himself to a man who ran as fast and loose as Thane Walker.
“Goodnight.” Chase’s voice came out of nowhere.
Levi turned back to him. He hadn’t even noticed he wasn’t alone. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” Levi said, lifting a hand to wave goodbye.
“Some of the guys are hanging out after they get off. You should come.”
Levi looked back over his shoulder. Chase had dropped his underwear, standing completely nude as he shoved a foot through one pant leg while facing his way. The guy was very nice-looking and had a great body, but Levi sensed a possible come-on, and he just wasn’t interested.
Levi’s shoulders drooped. Why couldn’t he be interested in that? Chase seemed willing. From what he’d heard, the waiters regularly hooked up with each other. Why couldn’t he just make things easier on himself and be into one of them? No, he had to pick the owner of the company to be interested in. What a dumbass move.
He had to make a change. He’d heard the chatter on the floor. Chase’s parties sounded like a legit good time. Maybe something to take his mind off Thane. But in the end, Logan and Luke were home alone and not in the best neighborhood.
“I can’t. I gotta get home.”
“I figured that’d be your answer, but I thought I’d ask,” Chase said, pulling the jeans over his ass.
Levi went for the door, stopping before pushing through. He had to get his mind off Thane. This moody thing that had taken over his personality needed to end. Maybe he could get Linda to stay over one night. He’d never had too many buddies. Not really. Maybe the guys he worked with could help alleviate all this loneliness he experienced. Looking back over his shoulder, he asked, “Do you guys get together every night?”
“Nah, but I’ll give you the heads up earlier next week,” Chase answered, pulling his T-shirt out of his locker.
“Thanks. I’ll see if I can find someone to stay with my brothers. It sounds like a good time.” Levi pushed through the door and immediately started working his phone, opening his messages. The desperation of this melancholy that settled over him had him seeking out the safest of all his friends. Levi walked slowly toward his car, typing Nathaniel a message.
“I saw him unexpectedly. I did what you suggested. I thanked him and walked away. Even when he asked for more.”
Levi had expected an immediate reply. It seemed Nathaniel was always there, but he didn’t receive a return message until he was pulling into the driveway of his home.
“I’m not sure I said to walk away.”
The street was more active tonight. The scene that usually played out farther down the block, outside the apartments, was closer to his house. Levi didn’t like that at all. He checked over Linda’s house and everything seemed in order, then he looked at his house. It appeared quiet, too. He grabbed his phone, locked the doors to his car, and went for the front door. He was locked inside before he replied.
“I had to walk away. He likes escorts. He’d throw money at me if I stayed. I think he’s got a head issue about that.” Levi bypassed the kitchen, left the light on, hoping to show that people were awake inside the house, and went for his bedroom. He sent a second message. “Or he just likes it that way. I don’t.”
Having no idea if this unsettled feeling had anything to do with the neighborhood or not, Levi didn’t shut his bedroom door. Instead, he sat in the dark on the edge of the bed and waited for Nathaniel to reply.
“I honestly doubt he thinks of you like that.” Nathaniel clearly didn’t run in these circles. Levi got it. He used to think differently too, until he started working at the club.
