Violet

Three days have never gone by so fast. We talked, we made love, and we talked some more. It’s like Josh wanted to fit in every question about my whole life in only a few days. By day three he had my mom’s, dad’s, and brother’s names and numbers memorized. He knows the name of the culinary school I graduated from. He knows all my dreams and desires. He knows it all. Well, everything except the one thing that he deserves to know. The thing that I’m holding back until I know what kind of future this is going to be.

This is our last night together. Josh has to leave early in the morning to go back to Jasper to get ready for his game tomorrow night. I keep waiting for him to bring up the future, but he doesn’t. We agreed to three days, and so far he hasn’t asked for more.

The only thing that’s bothering me is that he doesn’t even seem to be worried about the future and what it holds. Well, if he is, he’s not saying anything about it. Maybe he’s changed his mind. We don’t have sex. As a matter of fact, he just holds me all night long, and when morning comes, he wakes me up with his frantic pacing next to the bed.

I barely open my eyes. “Are you all right?”

He tells me he has to go. “I left you a ticket at the window.”

I lean up on my elbows. “You want me to come to your game?”

He looks at me like I’m crazy. “Of course I want you to come to my game. All of them if you will, but I know you have a business to run. But yeah, I definitely want you at tonight’s game. It’s the big one. After that, I have some time off and we can talk.”

I nod, but that doesn’t seem to calm him. He finally stops pacing and drops down on the edge of the bed next to me. He’s in sweatpants and a T-shirt. He’s ready to leave, and I don’t know if I’m ready for it.

I put my hand on his thigh and feel his muscles flex under my palm. “What is it?”

“You promised you would talk to me before you walked out on me again.”

“Josh, you can’t keep throwing that in my face. I’ve apologized for that and told you I wouldn’t do it again. At some point, you’re going to have to just trust me.”

He looks at me with regret. “I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t keep bringing it up, but it killed me when you left like that.”

He stands up and pulls me to the edge of the bed. His hands are rough on my skin as he raises my shirt up. I’m bare breasted, and his eyes move all over my body. His jaw is pulled tight, and there’s a tiny vein twitching in his forehead. He acts as if he’s a man about to lose control. “You don’t understand. I thought three days would be enough to convince you what you mean to me. I need more time.”

His touch is commanding as he cups my breast and tweaks my nipples. They’re so sensitive, and I jerk at his touch. “You have a game to play.”

He rips my panties down the side and lets them fall to the floor. He pulls his sweats and underwear down his legs. He grips the outside of my thighs and positions himself over top of me. “Tell me you’ll be at the game.”

I nod, but that isn’t good enough. His cock is heavy between us, and he slides back and forth over my slit. It feels good, but I need him inside me.

“Promise me,” he says.

I lift my hips. “I promise you. I’ll be at your game tonight.”

In one quick thrust, he plows into me. There’s nothing sweet about this. I can feel the need to possess me rage inside him. He grips me almost painfully as he roots in and out. “Mine. Mine. Mine.” The sweet lovemaking from the day before is gone. This is primal and raw. His gaze never falters as he stares into my eyes. He repeats the words over and over until we both orgasm and he falls breathless on top of me.

His phone rings, but he doesn’t pick it up. He pulls his pants back up. “Are you coming tonight?”

I nod. “I’ll be there.” I haven’t worked out who will work the diner, but I know if I have to, I can call my brother. He’ll cover for me if I need him to.

Josh nods and kisses me. “Love you.”

I could say the words right now, but I hold back. I can’t tell him. Not until I’ve told him everything. So instead of professing my love, I ask him the first thing that comes to mind. “You’re not going to clean up before you go?”
