“Thank God there is,” he said, taking it from her and shoving it on. “I need you. Now. I can’t wait.”

And neither could she, it seemed, because she was moving her hips so that she could take him in, her wet center clasping around him, welcoming him home.

Sweet Lord. It felt so good.

She stopped him after only the first couple of inches. “It’s been so long,” she said, her breath coming in pants.

“Take it as slow as you want,” he urged her. “I’m not going anywhere.”

And then he reached up, one hand in her hair, the other still on her hips, and he kissed her again. Long and slow and hot. And her body responded, opening up even more for him. Taking even more of him in. Taking him in so deep, so true, that it was all he could do just to whisper her name against her lips.

“Josie.”

But she was lost to him. Lost to pleasure. Just as he was. As she moved, rocking into him again and again, he moved his other hand down to her hips and rocked with her. Both of them completely ensnared by ecstasy. Ecstasy that grew bigger and stronger with every thrust. With every gasp of pleasure. Until he couldn’t wait anymore. And all he could do was give her everything that he was. At the exact moment that he erupted inside her, her orgasm came with more shuddering breaths as she shattered over him, her body drinking him in even deeper, tighter, hotter.

This was everything he’d ever wanted.

She was everything he’d ever wanted.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

Josie woke to the sound of Malcolm’s heartbeat beneath her ear, the feel of his hard body beneath hers, and moonlight spilling in through the bedroom window. As she stirred, she felt his large hand caress her back. “I didn’t mean to fall asleep. What time is it?” Just then, her stomach grumbled.

He laughed softly. “Obviously time to feed you.” He put a finger beneath her chin and tilted her face up to his, kissing her softly. “And then… It’s time for more.”

She shivered at the sensual intent of his words. Every part of her was already aching for more, even though he’d already given her more pleasure than she’d ever known was possible.

“You better get out of bed quick, before I forget about feeding you altogether. How about we wrap up in the rugs and take a couple of glasses of wine up to the roof deck?” he suggested. “I’ll cook tonight.”

The last thing she wanted to do was leave a bed that he was in, but she also knew that they really did need to eat. Not only because they’d had an incredibly busy day and had another one on tap for tomorrow, but because they needed to keep up their strength for more lovemaking.

She dragged herself away from him, trying not to blush as she walked naked from the bedroom into the living room, with Malcolm just steps behind. She grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around her body, but he wasn’t nearly as modest, remaining completely nude as he followed her.

Her laptop was sitting on the table in the galley, and she told him she’d check email while he cooked.

While they were working to clean up the cottages, she was squeezing in email conversations and video calls with the people who’d signed up for the retreat, already suggesting titles they might want to read and making lists of books to stock for when they got to Elderflower Island.

“You work nearly as hard as I do,” Malcolm said as he got to work. “And I’m a workaholic, as I believe you’ve pointed out.”

“I love what I do, and once this retreat is organized, I won’t have to work so many hours.”

After she read an email from a woman reeling from a recent divorce, Josie offered sympathy and made some notes on titles that might help with the woman’s bitterness, which was apparent in her email. Josie put The Dance of Anger by Harriet Lerner on her list.

When she’d replied to the three emails that she needed to, she shut her laptop.

Malcolm uncorked a bottle of wine and poured two glasses. “You take these up, and I’ll be there shortly.”

It felt so naughty and decadent to be completely naked beneath the blanket, but holding the wine, she headed up the stairs to the rooftop deck.

It was late enough that no one was out. All the boaters had gone, and even the neighboring houseboats were dark. Whatever happened up on this deck tonight, no one would see them. She shivered again at the thought, amazed at who she had become in such a short period of time. She hardly recognized herself. She’d never been a woman who threw caution to the wind and decided to have a fling. She certainly wasn’t a woman who planned to have sex on the roof.
