“Then don’t leave, Dad,” I said.

“Ever?” he asked, with a little teasing smile.

I stared at him and the back of my eyes began to sting.

“Sorry, Buttercup,” he said gently. “That knock on the door is coming for me. Just like it came for your mother.”

Chapter 27

Cole

I drove through the gates of the ranch and felt a strange sense of homecoming, belonging even. Strange, as I had grown up in the busy-busy-busy city with skyscrapers all around me and people packed as tightly as sardines, and all these peaceful rolling sparse lands should have been unnerving, but I found it relaxing and welcoming.

“Mr. Swift,” her father greeted warmly, his hand outstretched.

“Cole. Please, call me Cole.”

“Cole,” he echoed, smiling broadly. “And you must call me Noah.”

“I will,” I said. “Say hello, Anya,” I softly squeezed my daughter's shoulder, and she complied.

“Good evening, Mr. Moore,” she greeted softly, and I smiled down with pride.

“Good evening, Anya,” he greeted, taking her tiny hand in his. “Welcome to my home. I’ve got a good meal and a terrific dessert for you, and I hope you’ll enjoy it.”

“I’m sure I will,” she said politely, then looked up at me.

“She's so well-behaved,” Noah remarked.

“She knows which side of her bread is buttered," I replied indulgently.

"They all do," he said and then turned around to look at his daughter. The one I hadn’t been able to stop thinking about ever since I saw her again in his office. Even now, I was so aroused I wondered how I was going to get through tonight. There was something about her pouty expression that made me want to rip her clothes off and suck her pussy. I didn’t even need to close my eyes to picture her... panting, her body bathed in a sheen of sweat and her eyes rolling into the back of her head.

I couldn’t remember a time when I was this crazy for a woman. There was no denying it, and if I wasn’t careful her father would be throwing me out of his house soon.

I turned towards her. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. “Miss Moore.”

“Good evening, Mr. Swift,” she said coldly.

"Good evening, Miss Moore," Anya greeted, and just like that, her expression changed. From being aggravatingly pouty and cold, she straightened, her face lighting up. Her lips curved and she beckoned Anya over. A few seconds later Anya was enveloped in her arms. I was somewhat surprised to see it. I knew that Anya liked her, but the ease in their relationship was somehow surprising to see.

“Where are all the animals?” Anya asked shyly.

"It’s not a working ranch anymore," Montana replied.

“Why not?”

Montana glanced at her father and a look passed between them. “Well, because my grandfather decided he didn’t want it to be a ranch anymore, and he and my father started a school instead on the west plot of the land.”

“Oh, okay,” Anya said thoughtfully. “Where’s your Mom?”

“Anya,” I cautioned. “Don’t pry into other people’s business.”

“That’s okay,” Montana said, with a small smile. “My mother passed away a long time ago.”

"So you live with your Dad like me?" Anya said with a huge smile.

Montana smiled. "Of course. This way I can pester him all day long."

Anya’s peal of laughter was infectious. "I pester my dad a lot as well."

"As you should," Montana said firmly. "It's our duty as daughters." She held out her hand for a high five, and Anya smacked it enthusiastically.

“Come on in. The food is getting cold,” her father said, and I returned my attention to him. He was not one to miss anything and I was certain he gave me a knowing smile.

Dinner was meatloaf, vegetables and roasted potatoes.”

"This is incredibly thoughtful, thank you," I said, unsure of who to look at as my gaze switched between father and daughter.

"We spent all afternoon whipping these up," Montana said.

Her father turned to her and frowned, but she smiled back brightly at him, and I knew then that she was lying.

"There was no time to do all these personally,” he explained. “I got the meal from Mrs. Sheridan. She makes the most wonderful dinners. However, for dessert, you’ll be having brownies that were made by Montana and ice cream, made by me. We whipped them up last Sunday."

"Bought or not, I deeply appreciate the gesture," I said.

I put a forkful of meatloaf into my mouth and instantly became a fan of Mrs. Sheridan’s cooking. It was easily one of the most delicious things my tongue had ever tasted.

After Montana’s sweet pussy, obviously.

Chapter 28

Montana

Throughout the meal, I was aware of my father’s watchful gaze and Cole's intense scrutiny. The only person without an ulterior motive who was simply enjoying herself was Anya. Oh, what a joy it was to be a child. Innocent and free of worries and scheming.

I thought of her mother and wondered if it would be appropriate to ask her about it. Probably not. I didn’t want to come across as a prying, snooping busybody.
