Harry buried his fingers in Adam’s hair, pushing Adam’s mouth closer to his neck, his breathing coming in short gasps. Adam sank his teeth into Harry’s skin, sucking gently. Harry gasped and tilted his head to the side, giving him better access, his fingers roaming up and down Adam’s biceps as Adam covered his neck in marks. Harry. His baby, his angel, his favorite human being, his pretty boy—

A choked sound made Adam remember they had an audience.

Stiffening, Adam looked over Harry’s shoulder, his mouth still pressed to Harry’s delicate neck.

Seyn was staring at them, wide-eyed.

“Harry,” Seyn said. “A word.”

Harry didn’t move from Adam’s lap.

“Now,” Seyn said.

Harry looked at Adam longingly.

“Harry!” Seyn gritted out. “I need to talk to you. Now.”

Harry sighed and climbed off Adam’s lap. “I’ll come back soon,” he said, his eyes soft and glazed over.

Adam nodded, watching them go and suppressing the paranoid urge to grab Harry and never let him out of his sight.

He sagged back in his chair and sighed. For fuck’s sake, Harry was just going to another room.

Adam glanced at his watch. It was fast approaching midnight and he had to get up early tomorrow. A shower sounded like a good idea while Harry talked to his friend.

CHAPTER 16

“Are you out of your mind?” Seyn said as soon as they entered Harry’s old room. “If I’d known about this, I would’ve never taken you to Earth with me.”

Harry’s stomach lurched with nerves. He crossed his arms over his chest. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Seyn gave him a telepathic smack.

Harry tightened his mental shields and glared at him.

Seyn glared back. “Don’t play dumb. What are you doing, Harry?”

Harry averted his gaze. “I don’t know what you mean.”

“Right.” Seyn sighed. “You know it’s hopeless. No matter how attached you are to this human, you’ll never be allowed to be yourself with him. You’ll never be allowed to stay here. We aren’t allowed to stay indefinitely on pre-TNIT worlds.”

“No one knows where we are except for your friend,” Harry said tightly.

“Don’t kid yourself. They may not know now, but eventually they’ll find out.” Seyn shook his head, looking at him with such pity it turned Harry’s stomach. “Don’t get too attached to him, Harht. Try to keep some reasonable distance. You’re way too affectionate with him already.” Seyn gave him a pointed look. “Was it really necessary to sit on his lap and let him kiss your neck? Is it another human custom I wasn’t aware of?”

Harry blinked. Had Seyn really not realized that his relationship with Adam was less than platonic? Was he genuinely oblivious? It was hard to believe. But then again, Seyn was bonded, and the areas of his brain responsible for sexual attraction were suppressed by the bond. For all of Seyn’s bold talk, he had no experience when it came to sex and relationships. Seyn had no idea what attraction felt like. Maybe he couldn’t recognize it.

Harry almost envied him. Things had been so much easier when his body didn’t behave so strangely, drawn to Adam like a magnet. He had been addicted to Adam’s touch and Adam’s attention long before his bond had broken, but now it was so much worse. Now there was another dimension to his feelings, one that was harder to suppress.

“Promise me you’ll put some distance between him and you,” Seyn said, looking at him intently.

“I promise,” Harry said, feeling like the worst sort of liar. He would try his best, but he knew he was too weak where Adam was concerned.

To Harry’s relief, after that Seyn changed the subject. Seyn spent the next hour asking Harry about human customs and some things Adam had mentioned that confused him. Finally, after what felt like forever, he let Harry go. Harry took a quick shower in the ensuite and changed into fresh clothes, happy to find that Adam hadn’t removed Harry’s clothes from his wardrobe.

By the time he left his old room, the rest of the flat was already dark.

Harry pushed the door to Adam’s bedroom open and padded inside. Adam had left the French windows open and the moonlight illuminated the room pretty well. Coupled with Harry’s much improved eyesight, he could see everything perfectly.

Adam seemed fast sleep, his chest rising and falling evenly. He was only in his boxers.

Harry tore his eyes away and undressed to his underwear as quietly as he could. He was a little disappointed that Adam was asleep, but maybe it was for the best. He didn’t think he could keep his promise to Seyn if Adam was awake and they picked up where they left off.

Harry slipped into bed and rolled onto his side, facing Adam.

He stared at Adam’s handsome profile and felt his throat close up.

Adam was human. In the dark and quiet of the night there was no escaping that fact.
