Clint couldn’t pretend to understand he knew exactly what Colby was experiencing or that he even got what he was saying, but he didn’t have to. Most people saw the world only through their own eyes and experiences, as if how they saw or lived through something was the only right way. The truth was, that wasn’t how the world worked. It wasn’t how people worked. There was no right way to be most things. Only the person in question could be the judge of that. “I’m always here if you wanna talk. About anything. Don’t ever hesitate to ask.”
“I know.” Colby nodded toward August and Vince. “They’re having fun.”
Clint looked over, watching August dance and laugh. He could see the sweat glistening on his boyfriend’s face, how free he looked, like he was letting loose in a way he rarely let himself. “Good for him. He deserves it.”
“Vince is good at making you feel important, like you can let go and everything will be okay. He’s got that electric personality, know what I mean?”
Clint forced his attention away from August and to Colby, whose gaze was still on the men dancing. “Seems like you guys have gotten to be good friends.”
He shrugged and looked away. “I guess so. Kinda hard not to when you live together. That’s not important, though. Things are going well with August, I see.”
Clint couldn’t help smiling. He felt ridiculous, but he didn’t much care. He adored August, and that was all that mattered to him. “They are, yeah. I’m crazy about him, man. I’m so fucking scared that things aren’t going to work out, that it’ll cause problems between him and Reese, or hell, just that August will realize I’m not who he wants.”
Clint felt Colby’s frown without looking at him. “You’re who he wants. That much is clear. The stuff with Reese…it’ll work out. You said Reese knows and he wants August happy. The kid likes you, and he’s fifteen. It’s not like he’s young. You’re stressing yourself out for nothing.”
He sure as shit hoped so.
They chatted for a few more songs while Clint watched the pure bliss on August’s face as he danced. Eventually, he and Vince said something to each other before weaving their way through the crowd and back to Clint and Colby. When they reached them, August wrapped his arms around Clint’s neck and tugged him close, the scent of sweat on his skin.
“It’s your turn to dance with me,” he said close to Clint’s ear. Clint let his tongue snake out and lick the perspiration from August’s neck. “Fuck.” August trembled, then pulled back, motioning toward the center of the bar. “You gonna dance with me?”
“I am,” Clint replied.
“What about you?” Vince asked Colby. “Can I talk you into dancing with me?”
“I…I haven’t… I’m not sure…” Colby couldn’t seem to settle on a response.
“Shh. It’s just a dance between friends. I know you’re straight,” Vince answered.
Clint saw Colby’s Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed before nodding.
“See? Told you I’m gonna shake up your world and show you how to have some fun.”
Vince took Colby’s hand, and Colby let him. August did the same with Clint, leading him to a space that wasn’t technically on the small dance floor, but that didn’t matter much.
August pulled Clint to him, their bodies fused together, August’s arms around his neck again as he grinded against Clint. He’d never seen this side of August before, but damned if he didn’t fucking love it.
With his hands on August’s waist, one of August’s legs between his, they moved together, kissed, caressed, foreheads together and wandering hands traveling each other’s bodies.
“I used to love to dance. How could I forget that I used to love to dance?” August asked before sucking Clint’s earlobe into his mouth.
Because life happened like that sometimes. He’d gotten busy with his career and his family, pushing everything else aside. “Doesn’t matter if you forgot for a while; you remember now. I won’t let it slip your mind again. I’ll take you out regularly, if for no other reason than to see you smile and let go the way you did tonight.”
“I love you,” August told him, breath against Clint’s ear. “I’m so fucking in love with you.”
“I love you too. Ever since that first day at the creek, it’s always been you for me.”
They kissed again, tongues delving into each other’s mouths, smiles on both their faces. When the song ended, they pulled apart some but didn’t stop dancing.
Clint heard Colby say to Vince, “Um…that’s good. Thanks. That’s enough for me,” before slipping through the crowd and back to the bar.
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
August
The day before Reese was set to come home, August lay naked in bed with Clint. Clint’s cock was soft in a nest of dark hair. He had flat abs, his lashes fanned against his face, and gentle breaths were slipping past his lips. Christ, he was so fucking beautiful. Nothing had ever felt as right as this.
