The sobs have long since turned to sighs, and now she moans. Her head falls back, inviting me to suck and lick the delicate column of her neck. Her whole body is a feast. I’ve forgotten why she was crying, why there’s dust on our clothes, how she came to be in my possession. I only know that she’s here now. That I want her. That I need her. She’s mine.
Desire thrums through my veins. I’m nothing but blood and flesh. The few thoughts in my brain are: how can I get her clothes off; if her mouth tastes this good, what about her pussy; what’s it going to be like when I get my dick inside her hot, tight channel; will I live once that happens?
My hands mold her breasts, shaping them in between my palms, teasing the nipples to a hard peak. I push her shirt up to her chin and take one of those tits between my teeth.
“Kane, I don’t know—”
“Shh, little bird,” I say, my mouth full of tit. “Let me make you feel good. It feels good, right?” I need to make her feel good. Right now, that’s all that matters. Everything else can fuck off.
“Yes, but should we—”
“Yes.” I bite down tenderly. Her hard gasp fills the air. “You like?”
“Yes.” Her nails bite into my shoulders. “Yes.”
I bite down harder and then suck the sting away. I alternate doing that a few times on the right and the left until her nipples are engorged and ruby red. I thumb the tips and move my mouth lower. I’m at her waistband when there’s a loud buzzing noise. I shoot upright at attention. Someone’s coming up the elevator.
Laurel blinks at me in confusion. A film of lust covers her eyes. At least I hope it’s lust. “Someone’s coming.” I lift her off the counter and place her in the chair. The floor looks like it’s a war zone with about twenty different breakfast products scattered around. There’s nothing I can do about that, but it’s not like any member of my staff is going to talk.
The elevator dings. I tug my suit coat tight and shift my erection so that it’s not so obvious, and go out to meet my assistant. Only, it’s not just my assistant. Two male detectives wearing cheap factory men’s outlet suits that are already wrinkled and pilling at the arms stand behind him.
Ned mouths a silent Sorry before introducing the two men. “This is Detective Noris and Detective McFadden. They say they have a warrant to search the premises.”
“For what?” I reach out for the signed judge’s order and think of who I have on my payroll to fix this quickly.
“For a person.” Detective McFadden pushes past me, smelling of onions and french fries.
“There’s no need for you to make a mess. I presume you are in search of Laurel Steiner.”
Detective McFadden spins around. “So, you did kidnap her.”
“Is that what her father says?” I ask as if it isn’t spelled out in the warrant that her father claimed I tried to use physical force to coerce him into selling his shop and then kidnapped his daughter and held her hostage.
“Damn right.”
I wonder who is backing the old man. He could have been laundering money for someone. Sham will need to look into that. We should’ve looked into that before we took his shop, but in the end, it wouldn't have mattered. I wanted that space, and I would’ve gotten it by any means necessary—and once I saw Laurel, I wanted her, too. I take what I want.
“You’re looking for me?” Laurel comes out of the kitchen to face the detectives. They do a double-take.
“Miss Steiner?” The older one snaps his fingers, and the younger detective hurries over with a photo. Detective Noris holds the photo up to Laurel’s face.
“You’re like a sitcom, detective. You don’t even know who you’re searching for, but you’re sure that the person is here.” I scowl.
The older detective stiffens. His face turns slightly red, but he keeps his eyes focused on Laurel. “Ma’am, we’re here to take you home.”
“I don’t have a home.”
“He blew it up today,” the young detective chirps. “But your dad is at a hotel and is waiting for you. We’ll take you to him.”
“We don’t need to wait for her word,” shouts the older detective. He points a hand toward the kitchen. “She’s in danger.”
CHAPTER 10
LAUREL
Fear lodges in my throat, making it hard to speak. I creep around to try and get close to Kane. I don’t trust these men my father sent here. I know my father has done some shady crap on the side.
I was never quite sure what it was, but once he brought two cops to the back of the store and had been giving them money. I’d been in the stupid cage. One looked right at me and asked if I was for sale. My father told the man no, but he’d been livid once they left, saying I was trying to seduce them.
