She tossed her arms straight up in the air. “Carry me to my bed?”

I did as she said, lifting her into my arms. I carried Holly into her bedroom, pulled back the blankets, and laid her down. I covered her back up, tucked her in, and combed the hair in her face behind her ears.

“Sleep tight, okay?” I told her, wanting to kiss her forehead but knowing that might’ve been too much.

She shut her eyes and yawned as she rolled over to her side and hugged her pillow tightly. “See you at noon, Kai.”

“Yeah,” I muttered, hopeful. “See you at noon.”

There was a knock at my door the next afternoon at exactly noon. Did guys get butterflies? Crap. I think men got butterflies. As I walked to the door, I tried to calm my nerves. I opened it to find Holly standing there with a bright smile on her face.

“Hi,” I stated.

“Hi,” she replied. She took a step toward me with her hands behind her back. “It’s noon.”

I snickered as I nodded. “Yes, it’s noon.”

“Can I come in?”

I stepped to the side, allowing her a pathway. As she entered, I closed the door behind me.

“This is kind of weird, and I’m sorry about that,” Holly began saying with her back to me. As she began to turn to face me, she continued talking. “And I know this might be too much for you, but—”

I cut her off. I pulled her body toward mine and placed my lips against hers. I figured the more we spoke about it, the more awkward and uncomfortable it would’ve become, so I dived in. I kissed her long and gently, my mouth resting against hers as if it always belonged there. Then, she kissed me back. She wrapped her arms around me and pulled me into her.

It felt like time froze as our mouths discovered one another. There was nothing wild about the kiss. It wasn’t intense, wild, inappropriate, or anything like that. It was more than a peck but less than French kissing. It was…nice.

Holly didn’t need my passionate embrace, even though that was what I wanted to give to her. I wanted to taste every inch of her. I wanted my mouth to travel where fake boyfriend’s mouths never traveled.

Instead, I simply kissed her.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Even though I wanted more, not less.

“Oh,” she breathed out as she pulled away slightly. “Okay. That was good.” She dropped her hold on me and began pacing back and forth. Her hands landed against her hips, and she nodded. “That was good, right?”

“Yeah. It was good.”

“Simple, right?”

“Uh-huh.”

“And it’s not like my family will expect us to make out with tongue and all the razzle-dazzle of making out. Simple is good. That was good.” She smiled my way. “You tasted like peppermint.”

“ChapStick,” I mentioned.

“Soft lips,” she replied.

“Yours weren’t half bad yourself,” I joked.

Her brows lowered. “Do you think I’m an idiot for doing this? I know it sounds crazy, but I don’t think I can spend the holiday alone with my family looking at me with concern and—"

“Holly.”

“Yes?”

“Don’t overthink this. It’s fine, and I want to be there.”

I watched her body relax as she concluded that I would be her fake boyfriend for the next week.

“Okay,” she agreed, nodding her head. “Should we practice the kissing thing a few more times? To make sure it’s realistic?”

I wasn’t going to say no to that request.

I pulled her close and kissed her again.

This time it lasted a little longer until she pushed against my chest, separating her mouth from mine. She was flustered as she paced the space a little. “All right. That was good. Better, right? It felt less…nervous?”

“Yes. That was good.”

“Okay, cool, cool, cool,” she muttered, walking back and forth with her hands on her hips. “Awesome. Maybe once more to get any kinks out?”

If we were looking into kinks, I would’ve rather taken her to my bedroom to perform my favorites, but I doubt that was what she meant. Did she think there was a chance I was going to turn down the opportunity to keep kissing her?

I held my hand toward her, and she hurried back to me. This time, I wrapped my arms around her body. She wrapped hers around my neck, pulling me down to her mouth. My tongue slightly parted her lips as she pressed her body against mine. An instant zap of craving rushed through me straight down to my cock, waking up the sleeping monster as Holly deepened her kiss with me, this time adding tongue. I held her in my arms and placed her back against the front door. My hand fell against the door over her head as her hands began cupping my face. Our kisses intensified. We’d officially passed the simple kissing stage.

She pushed me away again, more flustered than before. “Geez, Kai, stop, okay, cool. Okay. Nice. All right.” She waved her hands in my direction before fanning herself. “Okay. That was good. A bit more advanced, but it was good. Great. Oh, my goodness, great. Is it hot in here? Is your heat on? I swear your heat is on.” Her eyes moved down to my crotch, and her cheeks rose higher. She raised an eyebrow and found my stare. “I would ask if it was okay for you, but the proof is in the pudding. Or more so, in the jeans.”
