“Again, only by human standards,” Sel reminded me. “But you’ve shed your human dross now. And by Fae time, you’re just beginning your fertile years, Princess. So it wouldn’t be safe for either Krynn or myself to fuck you and come in you. Only your Royal Consort may do that—only he may try to get you pregnant.”

“But I don’t like that!” I said, frowning. “I wanted to try both of you…and to feel you both coming inside me.”

“That may never be, Princess,” Sel growled softly. “You can’t risk having a half-breed child. It’s the reason you can’t have me or Krynn as your Royal Consort.”

“I can’t?” This was the first I’d heard of this. “Why can’t I?” I demanded.

I couldn’t think of anyone but my two guys I wanted by my side if—or maybe I should say when—I took the Throne of the Midnight Court.

“It’s against all tradition,” Sel told me. “By tradition the Queen of the Midnight Court may only have a full-blooded Fae as her Royal Consort.”

“Tradition isn’t law,” I pointed out. “Is there any law that says I have to choose a full-blooded Fae?”

“Well…no,” Sel admitted. “But the entire Court would be scandalized and upset if you took a male who wasn’t a full-blood as your Consort. Just be sure you choose one who isn’t power hungry,” he added warningly. “And don’t name him ‘King Consort’—you’ll lose half your power in one stroke if you do that.”

“And the rest may be sucked out of you in time,” Krynn added. “Sadly, that’s what happened to the old Queen.”

“I don’t want any Consort if I can’t have the two of you,” I said, frowning. “I want you both—you’ve been with me from the beginning. You’re the only ones I trust! The only ones I care for.”

“We care for you too, my Lady—deeply,” Krynn said gently. “But it simply wouldn’t be allowed.”

Sel barked a laugh.

“No, it fucking wouldn’t! Can you imagine the looks on the High Fae’s faces if the Princess chose not one but two half-breeds as her Royal Consorts? Mordren would probably swallow his tongue!”

To my way of thinking, that was all the more reason to insist on having my guys as my Consorts and no one else. But I sensed I wasn’t going to win this fight tonight.

“All right—we’ll talk about it later,” I said firmly. “Right now, I want to watch both of you come for me.” As I spoke, I began tugging my nipples with one hand…and then dipped down with my other to stroke my sensitive pussy. I loved the way both their eyes went half-lidded at once as I showed myself, putting on a show for them.

“As our Lady wishes,” Krynn murmured and began stroking his shaft again.

“Yes, princess,” Sel growled and began stroking his as well.

I guess they were both on edge because soon both of them were shooting—painting their bellies with hot spurts of white cream that I wished I could feel inside me. I didn’t know if I really could get pregnant now that I was more Fae than human, but I had always wanted a child of my own. And if either Krynn or Seldarin was the father, well, so much the better.

The thought hardened my resolve and as I watched them come, I promised myself this wasn’t over yet. I didn’t want anyone but Sel and Krynn as my Consorts when I took the Throne of the Midnight Court and I wasn’t going to let any stupid tradition stand in my way. I’d spent most of a human lifetime bowing to the wishes of others and putting myself last, but now I had a Fae life—a much longer one—stretching out before me.

This time I was going to do things right.

I woke up the next morning to a strange sound. Thwack…thwack…thwack… There was also a sharp, metallic scent in the air that smelled oddly familiar…and strangely attractive.

I rolled over with a moan and found that I was all alone in the big four-poster bed. The places on either side of me were empty—which made me feel immediately lonely. I had fallen asleep the night before wrapped in the arms of my two Fae protectors. Cuddled between them with their warm, muscular bodies bracketing mine, I had felt safe and loved and cherished in a way I never had during my marriage to Christopher.

That thought reminded me of what I had done the night before and the vivid memory of draining my ex made me feel guilty…but strangely, only for a moment. Christopher had been a bad husband and he’d treated me worse than a dog during the divorce. Sel had been right when he’d said that he had it coming. I decided I wouldn’t waste another minute of guilt on my awful ex. He’d spent years draining me emotionally—I had simply returned the favor in a more physical and permanent way.
