Fox raised his brows. “Are you ready for more? I didn’t realize you were that insatiable.”

“I want to wipe myself off.”

He wrinkled his nose. “Use your own shirt.”

“This is one hundred percent silk.”

“Then use that little thing in your coat pocket.”

“Also silk. It will stain.”

Fox snorted, but he pulled his shirt up and over his head, wiped his own mouth and his dick before handing it to me. I very pointedly folded it around the wet spots before using it on myself. When I tossed it back to him, he caught it one-handed. “I’m going to use the bathroom now.”

“Then what was the point of this?” He shook his now very dirty shirt.

“I wasn’t going to risk getting a stain on my suit on the way.”

“You’re unbelievable.”

I winked at him. “So are you.”

That made him smile.

We took turns getting freshened up in the bathroom. When Fox came out, he extracted a new shirt from his bag and stuffed the dirty one into a side pocket.

Without saying a word, he sank into his seat and laid it back like he intended to sleep. I should have been just as relaxed after what we’d done, but my body and mind were on high alert.

“What’s happening here?” The words were out before I could stop myself.

“I don’t know, and I don’t want to think about it.”

I blew out a long breath. “Of course not.”

“Are you saying you do?”

“I think we eventually have to.”

“We’re not compatible outside of bed.”

“Or the car, or the plane, or—”

He rolled his eyes. “You know what I mean.”

“Of course I do.” I leaned over and pulled my laptop out of my bag. I wasn’t going to argue about this with him nor was I going to let him see how much it affected me.

“Dammit, Darren. Don’t do that.”

“I have work I need to get done.”

He rolled his eyes. “You know what I mean. Look, this wasn’t supposed to happen.”

“No shit. I have a rule—”

“You and your rules. I don’t mean we weren’t supposed to break the rules and fuck each other. No big deal there, but you’re right. Something is happening here, something more than getting off.”

Shit. He felt it too. “Maybe right now isn’t the time to talk about it.”

He blew out of breath. “You really are fucking impossible.”

I sighed and closed my laptop. I should never have started this. I needed something that might divert him. “Why don’t you tell me about your friends at the ranch.”

He studied me for a minute, then nodded. Grant is the head of the operation. He was my—”

“Commanding officer in the marines.”

“Do you really have to show off how much you know about me?”

“Are you saying you didn’t look into my background?”

“I looked enough, but I don’t have to brag about what I know.”

My heart rate accelerated. There were things no one should know about me. Things I wasn’t sure even Xavier knew. I just had to hope Fox hadn’t found out all my secrets. If he’d had Xavier’s hacker do the search, then all bets were off. “I’ll do my best not to interrupt.”

“Ha,” Fox said. “Be on guard around him. Grant isn’t going to like this.”

“Then why the hell did you suggest we go there?”

“Because it’s the best place, and he might not like it, but he’d expect me to come to him. He’s just going to be pissed off I got myself into this situation.”

“Didn’t this all start back when you were in the marines?”

“Yeah, but… I ignored orders and started something I shouldn’t have.”

“Why doesn’t that shock me?”

He glared at me. “Grant won’t like you either.”

“I can handle that. As long as he’s good at his job and takes protection seriously.”

“He does. X trusts him, and I trust him with my life one hundred percent.”

Fox was as serious as I’d ever seen him. “So who else do you know there?”

“Grant’s brother Rhys was also on my team. He’s quiet, but don’t let that fool you. He’s deadly and incredibly smart. He’s also a damn fine shot and would do anything to protect a client, even one he doesn’t like. He hated TJ, this mob enforcer who needed to stay at the safehouse, when he first arrived, and now they’re together.”

I nearly choked on the water I’d been drinking. “Together?”

“Yeah. Hell, TJ will probably propose soon. Unless Rhys does it first.”

Fox said that so casually. Being tied down like that. I’d never thought… No, I wasn’t going to think of it now.

“Rhys has a twin named Rogue. He wasn’t in the marines. He was a bull rider. But he’s retired from the circuit, and he works at the ranch now. He’s partners with Ghost.”

“Ghost?”

“Yes. He was on my team, and he can disappear right in front of you. It’s fucking eerie. He and Rogue hit it off when he helped us with a mission, and he stayed. He was FBI after the marines, but he’s done with that. He’s freelance now.”
