But I feel like comfortable comes with a lot of talking. And Master Choke… well, that really is the way forward here. So I say, “Let’s take off your panties, Cordelia.”

And now I’m not only acting like Master Choke, but sounding like Tank the narrator. I feel like I’m a character in my own book. Which is… maybe… kinda nice for a change.

Cordelia is staring at me with her mouth open, unable to make a decision. So I help her along by giving her an order. “Stand up, please.”

“What?”

“Stand up, Cordelia. I would like to take off your panties.” I almost add ‘you can do me after’—not panties, of course. I’m wearing boxer briefs. But I hold it in. No need to get ahead of ourselves. Plus, she needs to start with my tie.

I don’t actually expect her to stand up. What I expect is a question. Why should I do that? Where is this going? Something along those lines.

But we all know where this is going. So now she needs to make this one momentous decision. Will she follow my order, stand up, and let me undress her? Or will she get up, walk out on me, and never look back because I am a freak?

I am pleasantly surprised when she braces her hands on the side of the tub and gets to her feet, dripping rose petals from her flapper dress as she does this.

Wow. Master Choke really was a genius.

I lean forward, sliding my hand up her torso.

She gasps.

“Wow, your abs are fuckin’ tight, Cordy. You’re the one who hits the gym.”

She starts mumbling and pushing my hands away.

“What?” I look up at her. “What’s wrong?”

“Um… I…” She sighs, places her hand up to her eyes, covering them. “Oh, my God. I’m so fuckin’ embarrassed.”

“Why? What did I do?”

“You?” She scoffs. “Nothing. I mean, this is… wow. I feel like I’m inside a romance novel right now. But… oh, my God. I cannot believe that I let myself get this far into a sex scene and now I have to…”

“Have to what? Tell me. What’s the problem?” I am desperate to understand this moment. I felt like it was all going so well.

“I’m wearing Skinny Laminx! There, OK? I said it! My abs aren’t tight, Steve! They’re tucked inside a modern-day corset, choking the life out of me! And I wasn’t gonna let you take my frickin’ shoe off, but I can’t even bend over to get it off myself—fuckin’ button! I told Sheila I didn’t want the button shoes, but did she listen? Noooo! She went on and on about how they go with the dress—”

I am still stuck on the words Skinny Laminx. So as she continues her purge of emotions, I hold up a finger. “What’s a Skinny Laminx?”

“A modern-day corset! Britney’s mom invented them, so she’s always gifting them to me—not Britney, Britney’s mom—and… I thought it was gonna make me, well, appear to have tight abs, but it’s a show, Steve! I’m. A. Fiction!”

I snicker. “You’re wearing your skinny panties?”

“I’m sure it’s really hilarious to you, but meanwhile, I’m mortified!”

I place my hands back on her hips. “Cordelia.”

“What?” She snaps this word at me.

“May I?” I slip my hands down to the hem of her dress and wait.

She moans. “Oh, my God.”

“Please. It’s not a big deal. I’m fully capable of getting your Skinny Whatevers over those lovely hips.”

She covers her whole face with her hands and I take this as a ‘proceed’ gesture. But she’s not going to look and she might even dissociate from herself and pretend it’s not happening.

I lift the flapper dress up. The little tassels are slightly annoying as I push it up over her hips, revealing a lovely pair of skinnies bedazzled with just the right number of rhinestones.

“My God,” I chuckle. “These are kind of amazing!”

“Forget it.” She places a hand on mine, but I shoo it off.

“Stop. It’s fine, Cordelia. There is no obstacle that we cannot overcome together. We’re gonna get these down your legs and pick up right where we left off.”

It takes a liiiiittle more effort than I first imagined it would, but eventually I force them over her hips, allowing her to take her first deep breath of the night, and they disappear into the ocean of rose petals, hopefully lost at sea forever.

She is standing between my legs. Her still-pretty-flat stomach is right at eye level, since I’m still sitting down in the tub. And when I look up, she’s biting that lip again. “Better?” I ask.

She nods. “Thanks.”

OK. We need to get things back on track, like, pronto. So I conjure up Master Choke one more time. “Sit down now, Cordelia. Right here in my lap.”

It’s decision time again. But we didn’t just climb Mount Skinny Laminx together just to give up now. We’re gonna plant a flag on the top of this fuckin’ mountain if it kills us. So she sits, straddling me.
