“Don’t touch anything,” I warn. “Everything could be electrified.” He doesn’t listen and moves the curtains. We both look out to see our vehicles have been crushed by a large tree.

The weather had turned, but I didn’t realize a storm had really been approaching so quickly. I’d been on some of the properties, securing everything down while trying to reach Mr. Barrymore, who had refused to answer the phone and must have disconnected the line to the cabin himself.

“Why didn’t you tell me the storm was coming?”

“Why didn’t I?” I screech. “What the hell is wrong with your cell phone? Did you decide to go caveman?” “You haven’t seen a caveman, beautiful.”

“You are fucking delusional.” My heart races as he stares at me with those intense eyes that have been in my dreams all week. It’s the reason I went to my boyfriend’s apartment after our brutally awkward dinner to break up and then found him with Carrie, fucking as if I didn’t exist.

Walking away was easy. Firing them had been harder because it wasn’t the time to lose two of my few employees, but she was supposed to be working, and he was her boss. I should have known better when he wouldn’t get off his phone, but the man was obsessed with his Instagram page like he was a model or something. Yes, he was hot for a country boy in a small town, but other than that, he wasn’t special. He had rocks for brains and no intentions of doing anything for a career.

“Delusional? You’re stalking a stranger. Please. You are crazy. You’re the one following me around, and if I hadn’t been busy working sixteen hours on the properties, I’m pretty sure I would have found you stalking me around town.”

“I came here for a vacation. Why were you following me in L.A.?”

“I’ve never been to L.A.,” I insist.

“I’ve got proof.” It’s my damn turn to look at him with complete confusion.

“Bullshit, Mr. Barrymore.”

“It’s Stellan or Stellan Knox, if you’d prefer that.” He gives me a strange look as if I’m supposed to recognize that name. Is this asshole running some con game?

“Whatever. As long as the money clears, I don’t give a fuck what you want to be called. But if you put your hands on me again, I’ll call the sheriff and have you arrested. I don’t care if you’re some criminal or what you do, but I won’t be harassed because you’ve got some shit going down.”

“What I do? Do you really not know who I am?”

“No.” I shake my head.

He appears completely flabbergasted. “I’m an actor. I’ve starred in twelve action blockbuster movies in the past ten years. I’m worth five-hundred million dollars.”

I purse my lips and shake my head ever so slightly. “Sorry, I don’t watch television. I’m assuming Stellan Knox is a stage name.”

“Yes.” He actually looks put out and in pure disbelief, but some of us have too much to do to be bothered with television, especially action movies. I’m a romance kind of girl. Not that I’d tell him that.

“Now, I have to call for help because we’re both trapped on this bay.” I pull out my cell phone, but he reaches out and stops me.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, if you didn’t notice, our vehicles are totaled, and the road out is the only way to the mainland. We’re in the middle of a tropical storm.” I didn’t mean to be a bitch, but I’m scared and annoyed, and it’s his fault. On top of all that, he had the nerve to accuse me of being his stalker. If my life couldn’t get worse, I had to get hit with a life-threatening storm. So, if we die, it will be the ultimate send-off to a bad end of my existence.

I drop down to the chair in the corner of the living room, away from the windows and from him. The potent asshole who both drives me crazy and horny. I want to punch this Stellan, whatever his last name is, and kiss him at the same time while begging him to protect me from the damn danger we’re in. It’s illogical, but it’s the way I feel.

Chapter Five

Stellan

She sits off in the corner of the room, watching the sky outside darken, annoyed with me as if I’m the one who put her in this situation. I didn’t tell her to come all the way down here. She could have called.

“So why didn’t you call?” I questioned, crossing my arms and leaning on the wall.

“I did, you fucking jackass,” she hollers, jumping to her feet with a sexy fire that turns me on. “Seriously, you men. Is it a prerequisite that you’re stupid if you’re attractive? Do you cheat as well?”

I have so many damn questions, but the only thing that pops into my head is that bastard who was fucking her. “Are you telling me that prick cheated on you?”
